Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hate packing. I really do.

I have a list. A very detailed list...but I have doubts in my head whether we will be prepared enough.

This summer, we are taking a joint trips to WI to visit my family and then directly flying to Washington State to hike in the Mtns, etc...

I am freaking out about clothing/weather. This is complicated by the fact that we are cheap and do not like to check bags...(we will check one, knowing we kind of have to)...then we will have two carry-ons.

Also, for approx., two weeks, we may not have access to a washing machine (which is/can be problematic, as we have experienced in the past)...not sure...we are not staying in typical hotels a majority of the trip and have opted to stay at rustic lodges or camp...

And then temps range from 40 at night out in WA to 75 during the day in WI...

Any tips here?

I am freaking out because my kids are prone to having accidents...and being 3 and 6 tend to get messy as it is...it might rain in the mountains, etc...but we just can't lug a ton with us...

Someone has to have a good idea for me.

thrift stores or ship stuff to your family for the later part of the trip then when you get to your family ship the stuff you need in WI home in boxes via the post office/ups. So you're only packing for half the trip to take on the plane.

Just because the camp/cabin doesn't have washing machines doesn't mean that you won't be near a laundromat. And at need items can be washed by hand and hung to dry. Even just wiping washing spots and letting it dry might do in a pinch.

Wear your heavier shoes etc so that you're not packing those.. much easier to pack the flip flops or athletic shoes for visiting family and wear the hiking boots for instance.
