Again I have a group of boys coming over for a co-op class this week. We are learning about India this week.
Got any good Indian recipes that would snack like, meaning not an entree? or a dessert?

try to find besan/chickpea flour. cut up veggies, dip them in the flour (or make a pancake-like batter with a bit of baking soda, the chickpea flour, salt and pepper, you can add a bit of turmeric and/or curry powder too), deep-fry. dip in yogurt with chopped mint.

I emailed a local Indian homeschooling friend. She suggested:
Quote:
This is what I can think of:
Easiest but expensive - banana chips from the Indian store, they are fried in coconut oil and salty, not like the ones from the regular store.
'Parle G' tea biscuits from the Indian store -or any other snack mix. Tea is a big tradition and the snacks/tea biscuits are found in a wide variety.
Also, 'jeera goli' or 'badi shepe' - looks like sprinkles - really sugar coated fennel - it's a digestive and was given to us when we had the tummy aches.
If she wants to cook - she can buy egg roll wraps, make a spicy chicken/potato filling and fry 'samosas'. I can pass on a recipe. You can also buy them frozen at the Indian store, but they are pricey.
Can also cook chick peas with turmeric and garlic and serve with potato patties. Garnish with tamarind chutney, cilantro and diced onions. This was a snack at the beach!
Can also fry 'crepes' with a mix of rice flour, gram flour and wheat flour. Add , fresh ginger, diced onions, tomatoes and cilantro for flavor. Fry like very thin pancakes. Serve with tamarind chutney (my kids like ketchup.)

Thanks! I happened to be at Trader Joe's today buying milk and went down the frozen aisle on the way to checkout and several Indian items caught my eye! I decided the reheating route would be nice and easy!

I make naan - Indian bread that the kids just gobble up. You could have the dough ready and have the kids cook it - it cooks up very fast. And it is really cheap to make!

Chicken Tikka Masala, I think America's Test Kitchen has a good recipe. Basically, chicken marinated in yoghurt and Indian spices and then grilled. You could serve it with rice and naan.

I use the Naan recipe on
http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/Naan/Detail.aspx
We even do it on the grill when the kitchen is too hot. Never any leftovers!
