Anyone have a good recipe for turkish delight? There are a lot of variations when I just do a google search.
Or anyone know a good place to buy some?
I'm teaching a co-op class next week about Turkey, thought it would be fun to try.

Wish I had one...it's delicious!
(No wonder Edmund in the Narnia books loved it so...)

That's funny...we did a Narnia co-op class several years ago and the recipe I used was a bomb. So I am no help.

We have a recipe from the back of one of our Narnia books..."Aslan's Triumph", an old Chick-fil-A promo children's book:
Makes 1.5 pounds
~3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
~1/2 cup cold water
~1/2 cup hot water
~2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
~1/4 teas. salt
~3 Tabl. lemon juice
~1/2 teas. lemon extract
~1/2 cup confectioner's sugar, sifted
1. Soften the gelatin in the cold water. Set aside.
2. In a saucepan, bring the hot water and granulated sugar to a boil, stirring all the while. Lower heat. Add the salt, and stir in the softened gelatin until completely dissolved. Cook at a simmer for 20 min.
3. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 min. Stir in lemon juice and lemon extract.
4. Rinse a 6 in. square pan with cold water. The oan should be wet but not have standing water. (A plastic sandwich box works well) Pour the mixture in the moistened pan. Cover with plastic wrap (or the box lid) and allow to stand in a cool place overnight.
5. Sift some of the confectioners sugar onto a plate. Moisten a knife on very hot water and run it around the edges of the pan to loosen the candy. Invert the pan over the plate. It may be necessary to work on the edges a little to loosen them enough to turn the candy out on top of the sugar. Cut the suqare into equal width strips. Roll each strip in the sugar; then cut into cubes. Roll each cube in additional sugar to coat well.
*Ds, who fancies such culinary delights, recommends adding extra flavoring, to your liking. (Mary M...it so funny that you described your experience the way you did...when asking ds about our previous attempts at making Turkish Delight he told me, "The one from our brown cookbook was a bomb". All homeschoolers must speak the same language!!!)
KackyK, you might try using flavored gelatin and figuring out comparable proportions of water. Lemon Jello, using a recipe for Jello Jigglers, with less water, might work. Personally, I would use different flavors, if you're makng multiple batches.
If all else fails, my mil gives us a gift every Christmas of "Applets & Cotlets"...dc always say they remind them of Turkish Delight.

Kacky, we made Turkish delight for our Turkey unit in the fall. The recipe above looks better than the one we used. You definitely want a recipe with gelatIn in it or you are boiling sugar water for a long time!
Another option is just to purchase a box of Aplets and Corlets from Amazon (sorry can't link on this device). They are basically the same thing. ETA: Here'sthe link for the Aplets and Cotlets. This is a four-pack, you'd probably only need one or two packs; it's pretty sweet.
Be sure if you cook your own to start a few days ahead. They need time to set up, and some of the recipes we tried didn't ever "gel". Unfortunately, the recipe in A Child's Geography: The Holy Land (by Ann Voskamp) was not a success, just FYI. I think it is missing a few steps or something.

I use the same type of recipe as Servant does with the lemon juice & gelatin excepy my recipe uses 1/4c lemon juice instead of water and the 3 T lemon juice is rose water in my recipe. I love the rose water flavour & it is very middle eastern I added candied fruit to ours but instead of adding pistashios I used green pumpkin seeds and it turned out great . just add any type of seed, nut, flower or fruit to the pan before pouring in the gelatin mixture.
for valentines I want to try and make lavender/ rose turkish delight adding lavender buds & rose petals .
I found dusting it in just icing sugar so swwet so I mixed cornstarch & icing sugar and it was much better
If you want to purchase it most large groceries will have it in the ethnic section or you could go to an east indian/ middle eastern grocery they would have it .

When I read this thread a few days ago, I read Mary's response as if it said her recipe was da bomb. Then I couldn't figure out why she was 'no help.' And how come no one asked her for the recipe?!?!
Coming back to read again cleared things up for me.
Just thought I'd share…...

Thanks for all the tips! I was too late to order from Amazon. that's what I'll do next time.
