Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This past Christmas I ran into a wonderful post by Mary Ellen at Tales from the Bonny Blue House about herChristmas Corners.

If you scroll a few pictures down you will see a vase that she used to put her precious ornaments that she could not put on the tree because of little hands. What an idea Totally did this!!!!

Now as we put the Christmas ornaments away I am staring at that beautiful vase and was wondering about using it on my buffet table and changing the contents depending on the season.

Alas I have no idea what to put in it!!!!!!! Does anyone have any winter ideas????? I was thinking we could make something to put in???? If you have any ideas for any season that would be great!

TIA!

an evergreen branch?

pretty bare branches?

pussy willows?

A branch of something budding that would bloom if you put it in the vase?

feathers?

I have a similar clear vase. I sometimes scrunch up colored silks and put them in it. For winter, a white or light blue fabric would be pretty. You could add snowflake ornaments if you have them around the outside. For other seasons, natural items like pinecones, rocks, shells, are nice.. My vase has no top, so I add bare branches, as Jodie suggested and in the fall I put in bullrushes or thistles, right along with a brown silk.   Another idea might be balls of pretty yarn.

I used to have a huge clear glass vase that we would put ornaments in just like that at Christmas. Other times of the year I would put in pine cones or sea shells. We've used it like a terrarium and ds even raised tadpoles in it once! So versatile!
Other ideas: colorful balls of yarn, buttons, marbles, fall leaves, prickly chestnuts (or sweetgum balls, acorns, or other nature finds)driftwood bits, polished stones or river rocks. You could also layer it with different colored seeds or beans.
Unfortunately our vase broke in one of our recent moves. I am on the lookout for another.

For Valentimes day, why not some pink and red marbles, perhaps some pink, white or red ribbons layered amongst them, and some candy kisses!

I'd just go for an entire vase filled with Valentine candy kisses! Forget the marbles, lol!

We have a large collection of colored glass stones (like marbles but not spherical) - we will swap those out with seasonal color combinations, using it as "soil" to plant a dead branch, or silk flowers, or just leaving it as is.

We've done colored cloths or tissue paper inside to hold up ornaments/decor/images from the inside....

A beautiful small wreath placed around it (we have a wreath of "thorns" and one of flowers for Lent, then Easter).

Oh! Maybe this year, I could put a wreath around it designed to hold 7 red birthday candles for Pentecost (one for each of the gifts of the Holy Spirit); with a holy card inside of an image of the first Pentecost....

Ideas are flowing

Thank you ALL!!!!

What wonderful ideas!!!

My favorite has to be the valentine's Day candy but my vase is huge and we might be eating candy until Easter (not good through Lent though

I am playing around with the ideas. The silk scarves are so wonderful and I think for this St. Valentine's Day we might decorate the outside with hearts and splurg on some real flowers

I'm just starting to knit so the idea of balls of yearn sounds so appealing to me.

Keep those ideas coming ladies!

conversation hearts candy are cheap.. mix the regular sized little ones and some of those big ones they have out now.. those are cheap and you could just toss them when you get to Ash Wed. Though it is later this year.. you'd have almost a month to eat up the candy
