Hi Moms~
Any ideas for home decor for an Advent Dinner party we are hosting?
We do not put up a tree until Gaudete Sunday around here...so we can't do anything too festive...but we are all about purples, etc.
Any ideas?

what sort of decorating? fun hang up streamers birthday party decor.. or calm, elegant don't touch type of decor.. or something in between?
we do Advent paper chains to count down the days of Advent.. alternating pink and purple paper taking off one link each day.. it definately gives the living room a different look when it's festooned with pink and purple paper chains.

I have used evergreen branches (fake) on the mantel with purple and gold starred "curl" ribbon all intertwined in it. You could have that around doorways too.
We've also done construction paper "stained glass window" stars like what Dawn has on her blog. You could do those in shades of purple and pink.
We used to have a table top Christmas tree that we decorated with purple ornaments. A large glass bowl or hurricane glass bowl could hold purple ball ornaments too.

I am going more for the "calm, elegant".
Thank you for the ideas! I willd efinitely see if i can find some fake evergreen and intertwine with purple ribbon.
Maybe some votive lights, too? Going for simple. I am in time-crunch mode now. :)

I love candles and think they add a beautiful, simple touch. Votives are easy and I think will add to that "calm, elegant" feel.

you can fill vases or other containers (a pretty glass bowl?) with little purple (and pink?) glass ball ornaments

Do you live close to an IKEA?
I got some beautiful votive candles (actually, they are a little bit bigger) with purple glass. They also had purple sand and small rocks to fill clear glass jars and add a candle too.
We are using both for Advent this year.

I am jealous. Nearest Ikea=2 hours.
I just went to Michaels looking for purple votives. EVERYTHING is Red and Gold. It's the "post-Christmas sale."
Was going to try Target...but in the meantime...I need to do some preparations on the home front...or it won't matter what color candles I have--they'll only illuminate the current mess here.
Awesome ideas everyone!

Just so you know, I just bought a set of 4 lavender votive candles at Target this week. We use them for our Advent wreath... yes, I'm behind and was using old ones until now.
