Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone ever heard of these? We were visiting in Virginia this weekend and came across a local magazine that featured an article on these centers - apparently Virginia still has 12 centers! http://www.virginialiving.com/articles/putting-up-the-harves t This is the first I've ever heard of such a place.

My state has none. Gosh, this would be such a helpful opportunity for those of us trying to grow and/or pick and can our own foods. I'm thinking of maybe making a couple of day trips to Virginia next year - it may just be worth the trip.

The Pick Your Own site has a list of centers organized by state: Canning Centers

Anyone have any advice or experiences?

This is such a great idea! I was going to say that I've only ever heard of centers like that through the LDS church; the list at your link confirms that they sponsor quite a few.. I wonder if there are more of them around that just haven't made the list? I don't know of any non-LDS ones in Maryland, though; Virginia seems to have a lot! Have any of you Virginia ladies been to one?

Peace,
Nancy

So these are like home canning with help..

I had a friend in California who canned her toffee one year.. she gives them as Christmas gifts.. and it was metal cans with lids that you use a can opener to take off just like commercial canning.
