Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I didn't know whether to post this here or in the hsitory forum, but we just rec'd the coolest book today. I had seen it mentioned in FUN Books' catalog. It's called Loaves of Fun: A history of bread with activities and recipes from around the world.

It looks like it would be fun iethe rto do a whole unit on bread or to use as a resource for all the differnt stages in history. The author, Elizabeth Harbison does a great job of writing on a student's level with talking to down to them. The recipes are clear and there are some unusual breads in here.....

Sounds like we'll be carbo-loading around here for a while

Sounds like a wonderful book. What countries/civilizations does it cover? What kind of recipes...like feast day breads or everyday breads?

I just got this link for a Fasting Bread recipe for Lent...crosses over the maple sugaring thread, too!
