After 16 months we are finally able to replace our kitchen. I have posted a few times over the last year about my struggles in living in a house with a family that needs feeding and no "real" place to cook and the disarry we have been struggling with while the kitchen was demo'ed.
I just finished install the "new" cabinents (from the Habitat for Humanity store), the floor is layed, the walls painted, and electricty working. I have a bit of construction to do on the room to make the layout fit, but nothing major. The new (HUGE) fridge and freezer units are in and filling up, and the stove is hooked up. All we still need are counter tops and a dishwasher. But my dh is on his way home from a business trip that went well and he told me to go pick out what I want and we will get it on Friday. YEAH!
It has been a long year. I have been collecting items from FreeCycle, Craigslist, and resale shops. I started this remodel with this idea of what I "deserved" in a kitchen and learned to let go of that completely! It has been an ongoing lesson in making what God puts in our path work for us. I had visions of a sleek contempory kitchen. The end result is more of an eclectic, cozy country
I wanted to share my joy with all of you! I appreciate all the words of encouragement I have recieved on this board over the years! Thank you!

This resonates with me so, so very much. I think there is a wonder of peace and beauty that comes with our limitations on material items. God has provided me with many, many opportunities for growth in this area of my life as well. As my husband and I build our own home ourselves we have removed the word *want* from our lips and in its stead, have put the word *need*. For our home, our vision is three words: Simplicity. Humility. Service.
I too have become acquainted with FreeCycle and Craig's List - did you know that you can buy wood flooring on Craig's list for a dollar a square foot? Looks like I'll be learning how to install flooring, as well as having the opportunity to become really good at painting
God Bless! I'm looking forward to feeling the happiness of the fruits of our labors and sacrifices, just as you are!

WooHoo! It is amazing the things we take for granted and then come to appreciate so much when we must do without.
Peace,
Nancy
