I need some more ideas for cleaning the odor out of furniture after a child is sick. Yesterday my son got sick on the cushions of the couch. I pulled the cushions off and steam cleaned them. That normally does the trick, but it didn't quite work this time, so I steam cleaned them again last night right before bed. That didn't get the odor out, so I sprinkled a thick layer of baking soda on it, let that sit for a few hours, then vacuumed that up. That hasn't worked.
I need more ideas, please!!

Vinegar perhaps? Hot vinegar and bag it to hold in the vapors?
Febreeze Fabric refresher works pretty good too.

Febreeze has worked well for me. Unfortunately, I despise the scent of Febreeze.  So, I douse it in Febreeze and then air it out for several days. Both odors are undetectable to me after a couple of days.

there's an enzyme cleaner for pet odors you can get like at walmart.. it's supposed to really work well.. I haven't needed it myself but I mean friends telling me it works.. not ads

Sorry, a tangent...but I had to say, I also really despise the odor of Febreeze. It makes me gag and sneeze. I've tried all different kinds, even the hypoallergenic, and I dislike them all. I've never heard anyone else dislike it, so I had to comment.

I was going to suggest vinegar, too, but Jodie reminded me of a product I used when we had a guest vomit on my couch THE DAY my mother was arriving from out of state.
It was for pet odors. It really did work better than I had expected. Afterward, I used it in the washing machine for those times I let the wash sit too long...it neutralized the mildewy clothes smell.

Yes, ditto to the pet enzyme stuff. And it does take time for it to work, so the smell isn't going to be gone the next day, but over time and when it's completely dry you will notice it is gone.
Worked magic for very old cat urine we had in our old townhouse. I worked on those for-EVER. Finally did enzyme and thought it wasn't working. I gave up. After a week, went back in and realized it was gone. It just took a while for enzymes to eat the bacteria.
Oh, and one of those little black lights will reveal where you might have missed cleaning biological stains. Very revealing. Don't bring to public places if you have a weak stomach.

I give testimony that the enzyme pet odor cleaner is GREAT! I think the bottle is a little pricey, but it is a concentrate - when you realize how much product you can make from it, the price sounds much more reasonable.

ETA: I'd forgotten that it does take a while to work. Seems to me that we had to keep the spot covered with damp rags for something like 8 hours --But it was worth it!

Do the covers zip off of the cushions? Sometimes if you can get the covers off and just air the actual cushion out in the sun for the day, it will get rid of the smell.
