Every year we put out a big garden and freeze green beans and sweet corn and can our tomatoes for winter.
This year, the rain hasn't stopped long enough for the garden to dry out enough to be tilled and planted.  Plus, we have a new baby due at the end of July. I kept worrying/wondering how I was ever going to be able to keep up with it, even with DH's help. Maybe this is God's way of telling me I won't be able to keep up after the baby comes? So, now that it's almost the end of June and we still haven't planted anything (except potatoes months ago), I'm concerned about what we will do for vegetables.
What have you found are the best ways to purchase vegetables and save money? If you don't garden, how do you do it? What do you buy? It's going to be so weird not to have our freezer full of our garden's bounty this fall and winter.

Depending where you are you are probably right, you won't have a garden this year. I have had my years of no garden, too. I have found shopping sales or farmers markets or letting people know you are looking for a gross of green beans to freeze  can get you close to a freezer full.

We're in the same boat (he-he)  . We've got potatoes, corn and onions planted. I still have a few bags of frozen beans and peas from last year, but it's going to be tough. All of our neighbors have the same problem, so I'll be checking out farmer's markets. And Aldi.

depends where you are of course.. I'm in the process of planting a garden right now. I bought seedlings. And even with our short season.. as long as we do get warm weather this summer.. I'll get a decent amount of veggies.
But yeah, watch for sales.. when it gets cheap.. buy it in bulk to can/freeze.
I think we've already missed out on strawberries.. they just never did get anywhere near the price I usually wait for before buying them to make jam

We try to buy most of our fruits and vegtables from a local farm. Half the time it costs less than we would spend at the grocery store. We participate in both of the CSA programs they offer so that helps save money.
