Yes, thanks be to God! My teen dds are FINALLY getting a SELECTION of things to choose from instead of only one or two in the whole store The skirts we found for Easter were so cute on them and flowed around them so gracefully when they walked. They are 16 but are built more like a misses size rather than a junior.

A tip learnt the hard way - Consider at the end of the season buying extra for the next couple of years in your dd's next couple of sizes.

Where can I buy these delightful skirts from? Did I miss it in the article?

I think they're only available in boutique shops right now, but it sounds like the trend is spreading in L.A. The only chain store mentioned was Anthropologie (which I've set foot in exactly one time).
I hope that the trend means we'll see lower-cost versions, sewing patterns, etc. I loved, loved, loved my college-era elastic waist circle skirts.
Erin, great tip! I would not have thought to do that.

Nancy
You really don't need a pattern for circle skirts. A while back my dd8 made one. Here's easy instructions.

Last time I wore one of these, my waist was too *small* and I felt like the skirt ballooned over my hips. I don't have that problem anymore. Maybe I should give the skirt another shot, hey?

I don’t think those would be hard to sew at all......I just wonder what it would look like on me.....all of 5’1”, but not of, um....5’1” weight?? I love skirts!

4ladsmom - I wouldn't do a circle skirt.. but rather a gored skirt of similar length and full at the bottom but not over the hips the look will be simliar but you won't have the bunching over the hips that way.

A circle skirt doesn't have to be gathered at the waist like the one in the photo if you use the directions like Erin posted to make it but use your waist measurement as the top circle and put in a zipper. A little less full over the hips than the version in the picture and might look nicer with an untucked blouse.
Also, supportive undergarments were really "in" when circle skirts were popular. I'll bet even the lovely Barbara Billingsley wore a girdle to help define the waist.

Oh, you are so right, Jodie! I love my skirts that are fitted through the hips, and then flare at the bottom.....love it. I made a skirt a few summers ago, and had it on the other day, and my teen son complemented me a few times, and said to dh, “Did you know mom made that skirt?” They are so use to seeing me do quilts, I think they forget I can sew simple skirts, too!
