Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had to share a tip with you - my chemist son came up with it. Evidently the baking soda and vinegar reaction is great for dissolving wall paper adhesive. We did score the wall paper at first, but it didn't even seem necessary and we didn't bother for most of the rest of the walls.

Warm water 2:1 ration in one bucket the water and baking soda, in the other the water and vinegar. Use two different paint rollers, alternating the baking soda mixture and then the vinegar mixture, then the baking soda, then .... for about 5 minutes. When it came time to peel the wall paper off - it just all came down like it wasn't even stuck to the wall.

We had more trouble with the room with layer upon layer of wall paper - seems this one, one of these must have been extra glued and using our above recipe resulted in even stickier wall paper unless it was removed right away while wet. Of course this goes very, very slowly - in mini sections unless we want to tear up the whole wall and re-mud.

Any suggestions on speeding this up?

Janet

Janet, the baking soda/vinegar idea is brilliant. For the stubborn room, have you tried heat? Seems like I've heard that a steam cleaner or an old iron can help loosen stubborn glue on older wallpapers...or maybe just make your baking soda and vinegar solutions hotter. Removing wallpaper is such a tedious job. Good luck with all our projects.
