We have two 5 gallon buckets that are empty and taking up space in our computer room. I'd hate to throw away potentially valuable storage bins, but they have no purpose at the moment, and are an eye sore. I am open to any suggestions as to what to do with them.

Outside toy containers - great for holding bats, balls, trucks, kites, sand toys, sidewalk chalk.
Pantry storage - If they're clean or can be cleaned, buy in bulk and store non-perishables in the buckets and keep them in your pantry or a closet.
I can't remember the link, but I thought I remembered that someone made a neat bucket of art supplies...anyone remember that to link it? I thought it was Erin, but a quick search didn't turn anything up.

I use 6 gallon buckets for food for my pantry.. they can go anywhere just about.. and if it's not clean enough for loose grains or sugar or such.. you can put packages of chocolate chips or pwd sugar or brown sugar or pasta or take the cake mixes out of the box and just keep the back of the box for directions and fill the bucket with the bags of mix etc.
They're also good for pwd laundry detergent, briquettes for camping, emergency supplies, etc

Outdoor storage would be perfect! Pantry storage wouldn't work. We have a small pantry, so we can't buy items in such large amounts. I have room on the bottom shelf for a small to medium bag of dog food, and the bulk vinegar I use for cleaning, and that's it. They can easily be cleaned! We used to use them for beer buckets.

My dd has a "dance bucket" made from one of these. The outside is covered with fabric and the lid has been turned into a padded seat.

I'm not sure what we could store. We don't eat a lot of beans or loose grains. We mostly eat fresh produce and fish or chicken. I don't bake very often.

That is perfect! We don't have much space for storage in the garage, since we park our cars in it and have a deep freezer. If we could hang that from the ceiling in the garage, then we'd have room to put our son's bike in the garage, and then I'd have my foyer back!

Ohh that's neat! Just think, you could also use one for "gardening" supplies. I have about 5 of those buckets laying around that I just can't seem to get rid of but unsure what to do with them.

On the gardening note...a tree watering bucket!!
We planted 100 little tree's last summer and use 5 gallon Home Depot buckets with 3 small holes drilled in a line right near the bottom of the bucket to get them water--which is really needed to help them establish themselves and survive. Fill with water, place next to tree, instant, drip water-er. For $3!
We didn't have to buy those expensive plastic bag thing-y's and they are orange so when they blow over we can find them

Plant in them! I make one up for my grandma for her patio each year. A cherry tomato, a cucumber vine, a couple of pole beans and basil fit in one bucket!
