This is the question.
Lining the kitchen shelves and drawers....adhesive or non-adhesive liners? I've stood in front of my options in various stores and I'm determined not to make the decision just based on the pretty patterns (or not so pretty hideous ones!).
I remember my dear mother's were lined with adhesive liner, but I can't say I ever paid attention to how it held up even though I do remember on occassion helping her clean a few out.
Thoughts?
Yes, I'm nesting! It's May and I can't possibly have a baby at the end of July if my cabinets are hideous outside and in and grossly disorganized....right?

oh definately stick.,. having it able to slide around, be pulled by little hands etc would DRIVE ME NUTS.

ooooh! Love  the non-sticking options!! I just did this in my kitchen about a year ago...with pretty red gingham liner. It's so easy to clean, and removal is a snap, too, which I love! I can empty the drawer, pull out the liner, wipe it down thoroughly, vacuum crumbs out of the drawer and replace the liner and contents!  The non-stick liner I have is backed with a textured non-slip surface which keeps it from moving around in the drawer.
I'm pretty sure I posted a pic on my blog somewhere...let me see if I can find that post so you can see it. I just love how cheery my kitchen drawers look with the gingham liner! Here it is! Don't read the silly post...just scroll down to the bottom for the pic!

 - Jodie and I are totally contradicting each other!
I will say that I had stick on liner in drawers and cupboards before I put the non-stick option in my drawers and it was a royal pain to remove...in some drawers, pulling out the liner took some wood with it!  So, if you go with stick on liner, make sure you LOVE that pattern! Cuz it won't be goin' anywhere easily!
Also, my kids don't pull the liners out of the drawers...but this could just be because they haven't learned that they can remove the liner...that and there's always something very attractive on top of the liner...like my big spoons or my hand crank mixer!

I was thinking like my tupperware cupboard that the littles are allowed to pull things out of.. edge would be easy to grasp on a shelf vs in a drawer type of thing.

I do non-stick. I've used all different kinds, mostly what's on sale. In the kitchen I made sure it was thicker, padded, but it doesn't move much at all.
I just saw some nice stuff at Costco, I think similar to this.
But for my drawers and other cabinets, I was creative. We had extra wallpaper from the previous owners and I used that for all my drawers.

I am now officially serial posting...about cabinet/drawer liners!
In my cabinets, I still have the old adhesive liner. It's rolling up in a few of the areas it hasn't chemically merged with the wood of the cabinets...and this annoys me! I've been toying with the idea of replacing it. I really, really love my red gingham liner and would so love to continue it in my cupboards...but I haven't done it yet. I am considering only lining one shelf of my most high traffic cabinet and living with it for a bit before I spend the time lining all the cupboards. Would this be an option for you, Dana? Maybe you could try one small roll of a pretty pattern and live with it just a bit before you jump into the entire project?

Yes - true. This is something I'm thinking of as well. I'm considering applying a small amount of heavy duty double stick tape to the front edge of my **little people accessible** triangle cabinet if I ever replace it with non-stick liner.

To think I was feeling silly for posting such a thing! My hubby called me out of deep thought in Costco and Lowes this weekend. It's serious stuff people!
Well, my favorite pattern is in the non-stick, and I'm thinking that'll be the best option (especially after the replies). All cabinet and drawers are locked, and as Jenn said there are more interesting things on top of the liner. I normally have tupperware explosions without my kids help. Hence, the need for reorganizing, which creates an opportunity to line! I might take before and after pictures if I can get over my shame.
Next thought is the actual cutting which I'm not good at. Such precision has never been my strong point! I can just imagine attempting to accomplish this with my 28 week prego belly, an almost 3 year old and 17 month old underfoot. I could ask for dh to cut it for me and make it an even more interesting project.  I'm thinking I'll borrow one of my friend's older daughter to help out with the kids when I get ready to tackle this.

I learned a trick for cutting, Dana...
Take the liner and press it into a seam sharply with your fingernail or a the edge of a ruler. It will leave a little indentation for just a couple of seconds. Pull the liner out and mark the indentation on the *wrong side* with a little pencil line. If you need to cut 2 edges, do the same thing with the other edges, marking it in pencil. Connect your pencil markings so that they intersect and cut! Using a 90 degree straightedge is helpful.

Well we've done something different for our pantry. We went to our local flooring covering shop and purchased leftover rolls of vinyl. We then cut to size and lined our pantry with vinyl.

We have a small bathroom so any typical magazine holders have no where to be that wouldn't get wet somehow.. I got one of the plastic realtor boxes.. the ones they'll put up in the yard with a sheet of paper with info on the house.. I can keep 5-6 magazines in it and because it's got a lid and is made for being outside in any weather it keeps everything dry.
