We have an interesting space in our current home, and we've recently bought a new bookshelf which holds the children's books and literature (yes, we've already outgrown it but that's another topic).

Across from the bookshelf is a little divet in the hallway about 4 feet long and 2.5 feet deep. It's begging to be turned into a little cozy reading nook.

Trouble is, we are not a beanbag kind of family. Three rowdy boys, sharp objects... well, you get the idea. They wouldn't last. So I'm trying to figure out what else I can put in there to make it wonderful. Just a few oversized pillows? Floorchairs? Does anyone have any pictures, links or ideas on what we could do?

Please don't suggest the lovely Target mini loungers for children. Not only are they out of our price range, but they seem like they'd get outgrown way too soon.

Lots of big pillows for the floor and to lean against...and some of that no-slip stuff you line cupboards and drawers with so the pillows don't slide out from under you.

Yes I'd do big pillows too. Some of the shredded foam for stuffing and you can make lovely big pillows for not too much.. a friend had one in fleece that was just too cozy

the length is about a meter and a quarter/third or so and the width about half.

The lighting is great and the hallway is carpeted so slipping isn't a problem.

Found some giant pillow lounger things online but oh my, the price!   

I do sew a bit... wonder if this would be out of my skill range.

Ah, I'm going to wax about "The Velvet Room" and her little reading nook -- window seat with velvet curtains that hid her from the world. And didn't "Jane Eyre" describe a similar reading place.

I know, not practical or helpful.

I've used Backjacks before when I taught infant massage. The nice thing is that big people can use them too...

But I really want to INVITE the children in...

Ellie, How many can fit in the area at one time?

My only thought on pillows is that with boys, they never are for sitting but weapons. They would need to be very big and heavy and cumbersome so they won't get moved around.

I do like those Backjacks. I think they are inviting...perhaps a few pillows and a cupholder.

Doesn't it look grand?! It has a few different recline positions. Says it's perfect for two adults (read: four little kids ) I could throw a couple accent pillows on the ends...
