Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm kneedeep in clothes organization. I know I've done something wrong because I can't find a stitch of 2T clothing in summer clothes, but I have two boxes of 3T.

But, as I'm putting everything away, I'm so muddled and befuddled!

What do you categorize your children's clothing?

Newborn
0-3 months
3-6 months
6-12 months
12-18 months
18-24 months
2T
3T etc.

But I'm drawing a blank. When the tag has just one size, like 18 months, does that fit in 12-18, or 18-24? Is the size the highest number it fits, or lowest?

Help!!!!

oh jenn

i used to separate everything out the way you're doing. and then i found it made more sense (for me) to just put everything together that was "2 and under" since they grow so fast at that age anyway and i don't have to run to the stash in the basement every couple of months.

Now Stef, then I wouldn't be able to use my labelmaker that way!

As the piles overwhelm me, I can't imagine doing 2 and under!

okay, i understand totally -- that label maker has to be put to good use, of course!

i'd go with the lower age then, i.e., 18 months would go in the 12-18 instead of the 18-24.

hth!

Yeah, I think an 18-month top, for example, is supposed to fit the lower age (12-18 months, in this case).

I have never found the sizing of small children's clothes to be very helpful, though, unless you buy all one brand. Like Stef, I just have an under-2 bin and an over-2 bin for each gender. Not much help!

I don't do a range after 6-9 mo sizes.. then it's 12 mo, 18 mo, 2T etc.

My kids tend to be small toddlers.. so for me this works great.. I generally need to get out a size a couple of months before they turn that age.. and then it lasts until a couple months before the next size (age)

ETA - Also I'll take a sharpie to a tag and change a size.. for example is a 18 mo runs small enough that it's generally outgrown by the time the child is 18 mo.. I drop it down to a 12 mo size.

Thanks, Ladies!!!

I do recognize a few things that always run smaller, like NFL or Collegiate wear, so I plop them in a smaller size box.

But you helped me through the hump. I just wasn't sure where to put those darn 18 month clothing. But now it's done (except I need to start a 5 box) and I actually found a few straggling 2T clothing, so I'm really happy about that.

I did notice that I was inconsistent in buying PJs. I think for 2T I bought 3T, but when my son hit 3T, I bought more 3T. Let's just say I have a quite a bit of 3T pjs!

Oh, so nice to check one thing off the list!

you should see me with all my clothing totes

I'm up to size 16's in both boys and girls clothes.. both seasons for all sizes. And the trick is always the size that my small 10 yr old and average 8 year old are wearing. Because I need twice the amount in their current size and for them to go into, but then I have to reduce it down for saving for the next one coming along. The best thing about my totes though.. is that they make me weed things down rather than saving everything.
