I'm far from an experienced cook, but there are numerous times when I'd like to help out w/ a meal for a new baby/death/new neighbor - what I call Love Your Neighbor meals. What are some good meals for this? (Including transport/ability to keep-freeze/kid-friendly). One friend got 7 lasagnes - including mine. She didn't complain, she was grateful, but still. Any ideas or recipes?

We've gotten soups and a pot of speghetti.
Mostly, if you don't have to cook it.. it tastes great
Oh another one, a neighbor saw some of the deli roasted chickens marked down one evening when she was at the store (they mark them down late in the day so they get them sold).. and she brought me one.. that was so nice.. I think we had some for a meal.. but I know I got several chicken salad sandwiches out of it and I love those.
But really, at least for me.. anything can be nice.. doesn't even have to be fancy.. a roast chicken (deli or not) a loaf of french bread and a bag salad.. that's wonderful. Soups are wonderful. Lasagna is wonderful.. but if I got 7 I would definately be freezing several
Things I might make..
chicken noodle soup and bread of some sort (biscuits, rolls, load of bread, box of crackers).
Several quick breads like banana bread and pumpkin bread and a bottle of juice.
Pizza.. kids love it.. I make it homemade and pizza reheats pretty nicely.

I'm not a great cook and I never have figured out how to cook for a large group of people. That being said though, I've made pot roast in a crockpot w/ a couple of side dishes w/ everything ready to heat and serve. As well as the stand-by spaghetti w/ salad and french bread. It seems like I did a chicken and rice casserole a couple times. I usu. make sure they need the meal for the day I'm delivering and I try to deliver close to dinner time so they usu. just have to serve or heat and serve. I also spend the extra $$ to buy disposable containers b/c although I'm a huge recycler, I think part of the gift is not having to worry about washing and returning dishes.
If for whatever reason a complete meal from me isn't forthcoming, I try to make muffins, brownies, a fruit tray etc. Some snack-y stuff for throughout the day.

I find that sloppy Joes are always a hit. I add things like pickles, chips, fruit salad, carrot/celery sticks, a jar of apple sauce, or cookies. Very easy and kids like it too.

I have been the very blessed recipient of meals after babies twice now and I have to agree that everything I don't have to prepare myself is a huuuuuuggggeeee gift!
That being said, healthy, child friendly meals are great. A favorite was a whole chicken, salad, and roasted potatoes. I also really enjoy the casseroles that I get (as my DH doesn't care for them, so I never, ever make a casserole).
For others, I have done pot roasts with veggies, bread, and fruit salad. Once I made potato soup, sliced veggies w/ dip, and an assortment of finger sandwiches (this particular family has many children). I've also done other soups, salads, and bread, or black bean burritos with sides and toppings.
One time, a friend went to the farmers market and just brought me a whole assortment of fruits and vegetables, along with a nice bouquet of flowers. That just made my day. Sometimes some basic groceries, or muffins or something would be wonderful in my opinion. Very helpful.
Also, not to give a shameless plug to my blog, but this is a topic near and dear to my heart. I really feel that it is a great act of charity and I wrote about it here.

My favorite post baby meal I got last time was grilled honey mustard chicken tenders with cous cous, green beans and a huge fruit salad. It was a welcome respite in a sea of pasta.

I usually take things that I can take in the aluminum 9x13 so they can just throw that away and not have to worry about getting dishes back to lots of people. After I had my babies I always stressed about getting dishes mixed up, broken, returned in a timely manner. :)
So...I make lasagna, chicken casserole, spaghetti pie, chicken pot pie...
Then I usually take some type of roll, a salad and a dessert to go with it.

We've also been given and sent chicken pot pie. One gal sent me enchiladas and those froze quite well. I think she even brought them already frozen.

Bagels and lunch meat (and or a cream cheese spread like honey walnut) with fruit and pretzels/cookies/chips... whatever the family might like. Mostly everyone likes bagels- they are good for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I always send TexMex Taco soup.
I get rave reviews!
And it freezes well.
