Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know I've seen on someone's blog a school room with bookcases pretty much covering every bit of the walls. Just can't remember where it was!

Have you done this? Any tips? How much did it cost you if you custom built them? Did it work well for you?

I'm finally getting my wish of bookcases in the school room that aren't odds and ends picked up from thrift shops. I know I want to cover 3 walls in a U shape with one lower section for a window. The tall ones I want about 8ft tall.

I'd love to see that picture too
My husband has made me 36ft high bookcases, up the middle he drilled a support (a broom handle) to take all the weight, he also grooved all the shelves in and glued and screwed.
These cost $100 a bookcase in material but products are always double here in Australia to America.

When our extensions are finished we will be building floor to ceiling bookcases. Next time I will make the bottom shelf taller to fit the quarto size books in. I love the support broom. I also own several bookcases that my father built and they lack the central support and sag slightly. I would highly recommend grooving, gluing and screwing the shelves in.
We used plywood for the backing.

We're also planning on making some picture book display shelves and some big picture book bins like libraries have My husband has promised he will make them

You might be thinking of Jennifer's lovely learning room.

I also have bookcases built by my FIL. Hard to believe it's been almost a year. I don't know the cost - he did everything himself, including cutting down the trees.

What a treasure you have Paula! That is amazing!

I too, am blessed with a very gifted Father that has built my husband and I cubbie-shelves, curio cabinets, chairs, console tables, bedroom furniture. He is probably the sole reason our home is furnished . I would love to have a central location for all our books, but as of now, they are scattered ~ some on shelves in the kitchen, in each of the girls' bedrooms, some in our learning room, etc. When I get some more motivation, I think I'll rearrange some items to facilitate just that!

Thank you Erin for sharing your pictures! Very inspiring. ... and Jennifer's learning room, well "Amazing" pretty much covers it.
