Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies I'd love to hear from those of you who have had to make the move from big to small living quarters please
I'm thinking if we move to a smaller home from our now 3 story character how does one decide what is needed and what is not ?
do you do a room to room inventory perhaps ?
here in our sunroom I've got dh desk with computer , nice school table at least 5ft long , shelf for nature stuff and hermit crab and an old small short dresser for art supplies.
I look around and wonder how did we ever live in an apartment and travel all the time and have no stuff !
what I really wish is we could purchase the smaller place and dh could do the renos on this place so when we go to sell we could ask far more then it would get now . anyway no situation will be perefct one so some helpful tips would be great .

i would look at the place you want to get and rather than trying to decide what you want to keep in the big house.. decide what you want in each room in the small house.

Look at everything you have in new ways. Consider double and triple duty for furnishings and rooms. Consider vertical storage options that utilize more space. We use lots of pegboards, shelving and wall pockets inside closets. Underbed storage is very helpful. There are many helpful books on organizing smaller homes. It seems like there have been a few threads here on dealing with a smaller home. Living in a "cottage" can be cozy and delightful!

Based on your description of your sunroom, could you consolidate the furnishings you already have; using the 5 ft. school table as a base against a wall, put the art dresser underneath the table for storage, place the nature shelf on top, with the hermit crab beside the shelf, then incorporate dh's computer at the front of the table, creating a whole new "desk" area? If you were able to stack and combine what you currently have you could utilize much of what you already enjoy in your home, while still saving space!

We've cut legs off of old buffets, creating storage that can double as seating. We made an awesome command center/computer desk area out of an old treadle sewing machine, with a piece of countertop and tall cabinets on either side; it fits in a very narrow mudroom area at the side entrance of our home. Most of what we use in that space took up a much bigger area in out former home. There are so many endless possibilities. Pray, hope and trust that God will guide you if a smaller home is part of His plan for your family.
