Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I recently made a cozy for my french press and realized this would be a very easy and nice gift.

I made mine with two layers of wool and some hook and loop tape. Not counting the embroidery (which you could leave off OR do as an iron on --JoAnn's has some very pretty iron on embroidery) I think it took all of a half hour to make.

It keeps my coffee nice and hot!

Forget about gift-giving...I'm going to make one for myself! What a great idea! Can you tell I live for coffee

Is it just a basic rectangular shape with Velcro closures?

Yes --made to the measurement around the pot.

Oh and I serged the outside edges of mine but it would work equally well to make it like a pillowcase and turn and stitch.

What about ties instead of velcro? Any reason other than aesthetic preference you wouldn't do that?

Lindsay,

You could use ties, buttons, whatever --I just went with velcro because it was quick and handy.

I really don't think I could do ties before I had my morning coffee, so it's Velcro for me!

I made one this afternoon! I used wool felt. It won't wash, but whatever. I used dark red so maybe it'll look nice for a while with just spot cleaning. I used a snowflake decorative stitch to sew the two layers together and forgot to change my bobbin thread from grey to match the black on top, and its actually quite cool, very Scandinavian. I'm going to give it to my husband for Christmas with a new coffee grinder, and I already hid it away in the box in the basement. But, if I get a chance, I'll take a photo to post!

You could always put it on the night before

Actually I realized a few days ago that if you have a press where the glass slides easily out of the metal holder you can put the cozy on and leave it on. My thought with the ties was the same --not something I wanted to do before my morning coffee but you're right Lindsay, you could do it the night before ... though I know well enough how likely I am to remember to do that.

I knitted one for ours (go figure, eh? ) ... just a matter knitting a circle to the circumference ... starting to knit flat for each side -- room for the handle -- and than join back up and dec as if making a cap! If done in a thick wool, this keeps the coffee VERY cozy!
