Okay, I don't normally call attention to my blog, but I had to share my progress with my doll for Lily. It all started when Mary posted this crazy long list of sewing books, and I got interested in the "Kinder Doll" book. I got it from the library, and now I am a dollmaker.....a very new, learning, not quite terrific dollmaker, but you know my motto, "Craft Fearlessly!!!"
Lily's Doll
Now, for a question....any suggestions for clothes?? They have a few patterns in the book, but they didn't get me very excited. I would love to knit a little cardigan...wouldn't that be too cute?? So, now you all know what I have been doing in between medical dramas
UPDATED TO SAY---
Hey, look what I found!! There are so many links to doll clothes patterns, free, knitted....very cool!

I think you've done a fabulous job! Long arms hug little necks better, anyway

Oh she's just adorable! I'm so impressed!!! I think a simple nightgown would be so cute on her- and I know my girls love to put their dolls in jammies before bedtime.

This is so great. I made a (much less impressive) doll for my daughter two Christmases ago. She got a very ugly polyester doll with a plastic head the same year (and first) and that is the one she loves. I keep meaning to knit some clothes for it so that it's not quite SO ugly.
Keep us posted!

Your daughter is going to treasure that dolly! I still have my Raggedy Ann doll my mother made when I was still a pup. My little girls play with her all the time, I enjoy seeing her loved by a second generation.

Go for it!!!! You know what I am liking about knitting doll clothes??? They go very quick!!!
I am almost done with a hat, and I am going to do the knitted doll dress, with snaps in back....although I am thinking about putting loops on or making little button holes if I can figure that out.....I would rather have buttons on the back than snaps. I know to make a button hole, you do a yarn over, and then a knit two together......hummm...it might be that I have to just get into it and see where the back two pieces are, and figure out where to place the yarn overs..

I love the doll! So sweet. And thank you for posting this because it's given me motivation to finish my daughter's doll for Christmas! It's very similar to yours- a Martha Stewart pattern I found on her site last year. Without a sewing machine it's just taking f_o_r_e_v_e_r to get some clothes made!

Oh, Marilyn!!!! I LOVE that book!!! I am going to look it up right now at my library. Yes, you are right, the title for Kinder Doll is different, something like you mentioned....I couldn't get your link to work above, but I looked it up on Amazon, I am so, so impressed with all of the pictures, I am very visual, and needs lots of pictures.....I am off to get that book!! When my little 8yo ds used to have surgeries all of the time, we would always get him a new play truck or car....and a few more afterwards to help through the recovery times....I think with Lily I would love to make her a few dolls ongoing, to put away for her surgery times. Wouldn't that be neat, to one day look back on her dolly collection, and know how much she braved through??? , just makes me choke thinking about it....when life is tough...make dolls!!!
