Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a nice fellow who comes to my home twice a year and thoroughly steams and cleans my carpets...but it is a lot of work to get ready for him and his prices are going up.

And twice a year is really not often enough to keep my carpets nice-looking (or even sanitary)...

I am thinking of buying/or renting a machine to do it myself. Do any of you ladies own a machine that you would recommend? If you have rented a machine, where did you get it and would you recommend that route?

Thanks in advance!

we have a Bissell that works quite well, when we use it anyway -- once or twice a year.

the rental ones work ok.. I recommend spot cleaning with soap if needed and cleaning whole carpets with water or water and vinegar..

If you have any soap residue left on the rug, it will attract dirt and you'll end up with a floor getting dirtier faster. Plain water can often leave you with a clean floor for a longer time.

The best luck we have had (after buying first a bissell pro heat and wearing it out by doing a whole house cleaning and then buying a cheap walmart hoover and having it fail the second use) was the rug dr from Ace Hardware. It was new and clean and awesome.
