Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds1 turns six next week, so his party will be on Saturday. Nothing like doing last minute plans -- the theme is "Now We are Six" which basically means anything goes as far as imagination.

The grocery store had major summer item clearances so I picked up loads of ping pong balls and bottles of bubbles for cheap.

I was originally thinking just "goodie bag" for the balls, but now am thinking of a few ideas. This is wide range of ages, from 13 down to baby (although babies won't participate, of course).

I was thinking first let everyone decorate their own table tennis balls to be unique.

And then I thought some kind of competition -- ping pong ball launcher? Make some? Would this be too hard to accomplish by smaller kids in a short period of time? Can it work right away, or does it require gluing?

There's these instructions, but I can't visualize it well. Any other patterns, instructions, ideas that you could share for easy-to-make launchers? Or would you suggest perhaps having a few already made and then just have the competition of whose ball goes farthest?

You could do ping pong pool. Tape some brown lunch bags around the edge of a table. Then let them all blow the balls around the table to try to get into the bags. When they fall off the table they just pick them back up and go again.

Or another variation would be to tape the cups laying down onto the top of the table and to try to get them, again by blowing. You could do both ways!

I don't have any launcher ideas, sorry.

I think it might be less stressful to have a few made beforehand.

Little boys will come up with all kinds of ideas for those ping pong balls.

Can I send my son to the party?

That's what I was thinking, Paula.

And your son can come only if you come, too.

I am just not creative! But why not make a few insects for ideas and let them design their own? Markers, pipe cleaners, etc - my kids would enjoy that!
