We have 3 lovely apple trees on the property that we are renting and our generous landlords have allowed us to use up as much as we'd like. They are all bursting at the seams with delicious apples and I'd love to somehow use the apples in a way that will give for several months. Does anyone have apple recipes that can be frozen? Can baked/unbaked pies be frozen? I pretty much know nothing about freezing meals/desserts/anything that doesn't come frozen! We do have a large chest freezer in the basement though, and this would be a great way to stock up on some things for the winter and into spring probably! TIA!

oh yes, you can freeze apple pie filling.. not sure about filled pie crusts though the crusts can also be frozen. I usually cook my filling until the apple slices are just getting soft and then freeze them.
you do need to add something to them because the fruit will darken otherwise.

A very old friend of mine freezes the entire pie and has for years, so it can be done.

I peel, core and slice the apples to cook like you would to make applesauce and then freeze in quart bags. I use them in muffins and quick breads throughout the year. You can also freeze already seasoned applesauce instead of canning it.

We froze applesauce last year + froze slices with cinnamon and sugar (which turned a little syrupy) to make apple crisp and add to oatmeal. I should have cut some up smaller to use in muffins. Cut / sliced apples into a bowl of pineapple juice, then drained and that prevented browning.

Do you have a dehydrator ... make apple chips ... we can go thru a bushel of apples in less than a week if they're dehydrated!
Once you cut into apples, regardless of how you're going to store them (dried, frozen, sauced) add some lemon juice or other acid to slow down the darkening ...

My sister froze apple pie filling in ziplock bags last year w/o freezing it. Just sliced up the apples and added the flour, sugar and spices and threw it all in a bag. She said it worked great!

I have put up applesauce several times now in the freezer. Very easy. Make whatever recipe you like and freeze in ziplocks. It defrosts lovely and tastes really fresh in the middle of February when there is nothing fresh available.

My in-laws freeze their sliced apples for pie filling. We make our pie filling and applesauce, but we can them instead of freezing them.
