Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Baby #4 is due in October. I've been trying to decide what type of baby carrier I want since we are going to be on-the-go with this baby much more then with my first three. I honestly can't decide between a HotSling or a Tie One On. I want both; I can't afford both. Has anyone here made their own? I've seen patterns for ring slings but I don't like ring slings. I'm a big planner and so (in my head) I've found beautiful fabric that I've used to make both carriers and a matching nursing cover . Has anyone made their own carrier? What type of fabric would you need for each one (knit, apholstry, quilt, etc.)? I'd love whatever details you can give!

I have made my own before - it was pretty easy. I made it in denim and lined it with flannel. I wanted one that the guys would use too. I know people make them in every type of durable fabric you can think of. The one I made was not a ring sling. I think the pattern was made by Birch Street - but I think you could save money and find an easy tutorial on the internet. Have fun!

I haven't sewn any slings, but I often use a wrap that's no-sew and is used like the wrap you linked to. You'll need several yards (5-ish) of fabric...I like gauzy fabric...I match the selvedge edges and wrap. I always tell myself I'm going to hem the edges--but I don't My babies don't seem to care!

Congratulations on your little one.

I do this too- I think I used 5 yards and I cut the fabric down so it's not quite as wide- I want to guess 32"? It's been 2 years since I made the last one, lol. I don't use carries that need the extra width (like back carries) so I trim it down. I serged the edges and used a lighter weight material- I think a crinkle cotton.

I did this with muslin, which was available at my fabric store in narrower widths than the usual 44/45, so I didn't even have to do that!
