If so, what sites do you shop?

Our Walmart no longer carries fabric , and Joann's is all we have now. The fabric there is nice, but I find it way expensive for some of the kid crafts we use it for.

I don't buy fabric online, so I can't help you there, but have you tried the Red Tag clearance part of the store at JoAnn's? In the monthly ad, there is often a weekend when Red Tag fabrics are 50% off, and that's when I shop--some really fantastic deals.

Try fabric.com I have bought holiday fabric there.
I would let all your garage sale-ing friends know that you are looking for inexpensive fabric, the price is right, but of course you don't know what you'll get. Also, if you have friends or family who sew let them know you can use their scraps. I had garbage bags full of bits and pieces until my 13 year old began making rag rugs. I would have been delighted to give them to someone who could use them.

I've bought fabric from ebay several times. "Smoke Free" is important to look for and, of course, the ebay seller rating.

I've bought fabric from various etsy shops at times. Our Walmart isn't selling ANY sort of craft things anymore. No yarn, no thread, no fabric, no bias binding etc I'm very bummed about that!

I agree- the loss of Walmart fabrics/crafts is a tragedy, especially in my town. For those of you in towns with Hobby Lobby, Hancocks, etc... I have only one thing to say: I'm jealous!

Fabric.com seems to be very popular. And Karen T reminded me that I can sign up for the teacher's discount (15% off everything, even sale items) at Joann's. I had totally forgotten that!

Thanks for all the tips, everyone.

(But it's a sad world when you don't have a fabric store IRL to browse in....)

I've shopped at a couple of places online for fabric--Fabric.com being my favorite, though.

Our Walmart still carries fabric, but honestly, I rarely see anything there I would want, within my price range. And little out of my range..lol.

We used to have a quilting shop here, but it closed at the end of last year. I bought a good bit of fabric and patterns and 'such' before that, thank goodness.

The closest other fabric stores that I know of are a good 45 mins-1hr away.

At what point am I considered an educator? My dd started doing school in the spring, but in PA we don't have to register with the district for another 4 years. I would love to get the discount, but I want to be honest about it.

IMO, if you are teaching at home, starting with preschool, you are an educator.

If you worked at a preschool outside the home you wouldn't hesitate to sign up for a card... so I think you are justified.

I am enjoying the daily e-mail from fabric.com. No wonder the owner is called "Evil Stephen" for all his tempting deals

I agree with fabric.com I just bought some beautiful flannel that was on sale for the girls' Christmas nightgowns
