I am blessed to be expecting our 9th child. While very happy about that, I am not happy about having unrelenting morning sickness at week 21. Are there any things that have helped moms in similiar circumstances deal with the meal(s) issue when you don't want to really cook at all and just want someone to cook for you instead??? I feel badly about not having nice meals for the family like I usually do. What strategies do you all have that have worked until this phase passes? Even shopping is difficult as the meat section makes me very ill feeling. Dad is a lot of help already and I don't want to pile any more of the cooking or shopping on him than he is already doing.

Kim - I'm embarrassed to say it.... ...but....
convenience, convenience, convenience
We ate way too much of it, but it was necessary for survival. Once I was semi-functional, I still wasn't able to walk into the kitchen without gagging for much of the pregnancy. Of course, the economy wasn't tanking when I was pregnant last and I understand that many of our budgets have changed to reflect those challenges...soooooo....
In a room that is not your kitchen sit down with pencil and paper and think of at least 4 meals that your 12 yo, 14 yo and dh can make. Write them down. List a few more panic meals that you know they could accomplish - super, uper, duper simple - spaghetti - eggs and sausage - pancakes - a meatloaf (? my 12 yo can make this so I'm listing it) - pasta salads. It goes without saying that you're only listing meals that YOU can eat. Don't list meatloaf if writing the word makes you gag.
If your budget can stand it, now's the time to make use of every convenience, bagged meal that Costco offers. I'm ashamed to tell you how many chicken pot pies and frozen pizzas we ate when I was pregnant. But, it was literally a heroic act for me to even get up and preheat the oven. Do what you gotta do...
Make a list of it all. Streamline it on paper as much as you can...and then hand it over to your heroic husband.
If you can streamline the ideas and the lists on paper first, that's half the battle. Then, muster your troops together for a little, "we're all in this together...if you want to eat you've got to serve...we're running a tight ship" pep-talk.
This is a survival time and you're going to have to dismiss the idea of roasted chicken and vegetables for awhile!
brainstorming some ideas....
:: Don't be afraid of oatmeal bars and snack bars for breakfast! Same goes for pop-tarts, toaster streudel, cheese and crackers, etc. If someone can independently remove an item from its crinkly foil package, eat it, and drop the wrapper in the trash all without your assistance - BUY IT!
:: Think of one-hit wonder meals....meals that don't really need anything on the side except maybe a packaged bag of salad. I'm thinking of easy casseroles with only a few dump in ingredients.
:: Don't be afraid to serve cereal and milk for dinner.
When I **had** to cook, here's what I did....
:: CRANK the AC waaaay down - heat and an overactive gag-reflex aren't good friends! Turn on all the fans if you've got 'em!
:: Have a wedge of lemon and salt - it calms the stomach and cleanses the palate a little....but this effect is temporary, so work quickly!
:: Drink ice cold water.
:: No handling/touching/smelling/being in the same room with raw meat. Period. Ever. If you've ever considered becoming a vegetarian - now's the time. Kidding of course, but try to get someone to dump the hamburger meat in the pot and brown it for you, etc.

Dear Kim,
I am in your same shoes...9th pregnancy...lots of hungry kids and sick, sick sick.
I can't STAND meat right now unless someone else has already prepared it. This morning I dumped pork steaks in the crock pot, added BB sauce and plugged it up outside in the garage
We should be able to eat on that for a few meals. I usually don't buy lunch meat, etc. but I figure it's cheaper than having me in the hospital on IVs if I try to overdo. I am only 8 weeks along. Gosh! I am taking B6 and ginger, but I think it isn't doing a thing.
I can only pray things get better for both us....especially you at 21 weeks!

We are in a similar situation here. We are happily expecting our 6th child, but the morning sickness(the kind that lasts all day) is driving me crazy. One more tip to add to what Jennifer added....Dh has been grilling extra chix/pork on the weekends and the kids have been eating it sliced and cold for dinner on the nights that I can't stand cooking. Some days have been better than others, and I try to take advantage and over cook. A quick pasta salad can last a few days.

What about trying Angel Food Ministries for a while? You don't have to shop, the meals are very straight forward: meat, starch, veggie, very little thought process. It isn't great but it may be a good enough alternative during this time.
Another thought, which is definitely more expensive, would be to ask some friends to have a Dishin Up Dinner night where they could go and make you a whole bunch of meals to get you through. You could pay, but ask them to do it so you don't have to be on your feet or smelling things you may not want to smell.
If all else fails, the family will live through a couple of months of chicken nuggets and frozen pizzas.

i just want to say "what she said!!!!" to Jennifer's post. my family ate a LOT of pop tarts, cereal, and sandwiches when i was pg with dd7. if i was awake, i was in the bathroom, and there was just no way on earth i could've cooked. i could barely stand.
it's only for a short while in the grand scheme (though if you have severe morning sickness, i know it seems like an eternity....!) and really, don't feel guilty!!!!
