Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was just moving furniture around in my basement, trying to clean it up and found mouse droppings everywhere! There are a million little toys, vhs cases, dress up stuff, all over the floor as well.

My question is do I need to just throw everything away? Soak it? I don't know how old the droppings are. (I don't spend much time down there.) I am just so frustrated and while I don't want to overreact, I don't want anyone getting sick either.

What would you do?

I'd soak everything possible in bleach water and wash anything that would take a hot cycle through the washing machine or dishwasher.

Ditto. Just reading your subject line gave me the shivers--finding mouse droppings is the worst.

Do you have a dog?.. who eats in the house????

we had a problem with mice in our on post house and we found stashes of dog food in the weirdest places... very gross... We found about 4 cups of dog food stashed in the corner.. later in the golf bag... and even after we moved, we discovered food in the leg of the weight bench. On post housing didn't have a garage so everything was in the house. I would definitely call pest control.. We used a lot of sticky pads to catch the mice.. they smelled like peanut butter and caught them almost every time....
so long story short.. yep. I would clean EVERYTHING>>>

If you are pregnant at all don't clean it yourself. If there is heaps of poop and its dusty wear a face mask.

Question - we too have/had a mice problem. So far, we have caught two. Just thinking about it gives me the shivers. We found the mice droppings in our pantry and under the kitchen sink. We have since put just about everything in our pantry in some sort of tupperware containers.

However, I did find some droppings in our family room on the carpet (dark green) and on our mantel. So, what is the advice for cleaning the carpet? I obviously vacuumed really well. However, I do have a 9.5 mo who is constantly on the floor.

I finally got down there today to start the clean up. My dh took the couches that we think the mice had been in to the dump and we pulled out the large area rug and scrubbed it outside.

I wish I had read this before I started. I didn't wear and mask and literally felt like I couldn't breathe after sweeping it up! I even came up and told my daughter that I should have had a mask and then got on here and read this.

I still have much to do. Lots of little legos, blocks, dress-up stuff. I am pitching a lot, especially random dress-up items. I will get myself a mask before I go back down.

As for it being on the carpet, I would get a steam cleaner. I constantly stress over germy carpets, we have dogs and I can't stand it! A steam cleaner is on the top of my wish list.
