My Genevieve turns 5 on the 30th and has asked for the cutest items; lots of crafts and has also asked for a bag to store them in. I was thinking that there must be a practical and neat way to store but to also open up easily. I don't want a bag with a mess at the bottom. Is this doable? If so does anyone know of descriptions to point me too.

What about a hanging thing ... like a shoe bag ... with pockets for all the different things. If you did this with a hanger, you could hang it in her room or by her work space. You could make it so it rolls up and ties closed and then have her carry it like a sleeping bag and then make a drawstring bag (maybe a pillowcase with a drawstring pulled thru?) and put the whole lot in there.

You have got me really excited, just have to see if I could work this out now, mmm. I was trying to visualise something like the crayon pouches I made, I think this may be it.

This is my very favorite art supply solution:
five gallon bucket organizer
That is the only link I could find quickly...mine aren't ugly like that...they are plain khaki.
lots of pockets and small slits to store pens, pencils, markers, room for paper and larger items in middle, and we hng them from hooks placed high...no toddler access...baby crying, sorry so choppy.

The favorite solution here is a nice, good-sized plastic makeup or tackle box. There's plenty of room, it has a latch so it doesn't spill when it's taken in the car or elsewhere, and things can be put back into lots of individual "places", but if they aren't, that's OK, too, since it closes up completely! There's even room for some paper and 3-D supplies. The kids love the way the top trays lift up...it's magic!

Colleens bucket organizer was just what I was looking for to organize my daughters needlcraft projects. I looked around and came up with this really cute Jitter Bucket

Thanks for all the ideas, I ended up not getting anything done for Genevieve's birthday but my mind is now running amok elsewhere. We live in a very small house with ten bodies, toss in homeschooling and it becomes a challenge. Anyhow one thing I'd like to have is an 'art centre'. The only place I can think of is on top of the piano; and I was thinking these buckets would be great, visual, tidy and easy to pull down and put in the centre of the table. Do you think this could work?

Waaaah! 
I love these ideas, especially the totebags in Matilda's links and the jitter bucket idea. But I can't sew.  Someone could make these and sell them to people like me!
