I am trying to think of some new ideas for snacks and drinks when we have people over to swim. I find that everyone gets so hungry and I would like to have some things on hand that I could make/serve, something more than chips, popsicles, etc.
Although I would like ideas for the kiddos I would especially like ideas for the other moms. I would like to find ideas that moms would like but I don't want them to think I went to too much trouble. So maybe things that can be made ahead of time. I don't want to be running around when they are here so the other moms can just relax.
What do you keep on hand for guests, or what have you been served that you really enjoyed?
God Bless,
Barb

It depends on the price in the store you shop, but we purchased a case of hotdogs to share when neighborhood kids come to swim and play here. The price was VERY reasonable $3.16 for 40 hotdogs. A pasta or potato salad can be made ahead and inexpensively.

not the only thing but..
carrots are great crunchy snacks.. served cold are yummy and my kids all love them.. and they healthy even any raw veggies with or without a dip can be filling and can be kept on hand in the fridge.
Some sliced french bread/baguettes or crackers with a spread (even just plain cream cheese or butter)generally isn't much work and is more filling than chips. I get baguettes off the day old shelf for cheap when I can and tuck them into the freezer.
popsicles are great for a treat imo, and in a swimsuit while outside is the perfect time for eating them. Easy to wash the kids down afterward

grapes. cheese sticks. edamame (soybeans). hard salami or summer sausage to go with those sliced baguettes Jodie mentioned. olives (black, green or even fancy). I have found all of these to be mom- and kid-appealing and have the added benefit of not disintegrating in pool water.
a fun mom-treat is margarita mix (or limeade) served over ice. even without the tequila, it takes lounging by the pool to a whole new level.

Michaela - Thanks for the hot dog idea, for some reason we have not tried this even though my children love them and the best part is I can keep them in the freezer. I never knew you could buy them by the case though. I guess Sam's or Costco?
Jodie - Sliced french bread with cream cheese? It sounds great but we have not had this before. Do you put anything else on with the cream cheese? What type of spread? I buy the day old baguettes but I have not tried freezing them. It would be nice to be able to pull one out as needed. I don't think you can have a pool without popsicles, I think there is some kind of rule.
Viviane - My children have recently discovered freezing fruit for a pool snack but I don't think we have tried grapes. The non-disintegrating pool snacks are something I would never have thought of before I had as pool. It is amazing how much food we pull out of the pool after we have guests. Yikes. The salami and olives will be a great addition to the baguettes. We have not tried margarita mix over ice either (without tequila). I am living on cherry-limeade though. It comes in a cardboard box like milk in the fresh juice refrigerator. You can add berry flavored vodka for an adult drink.
Thank you all for your suggestions. It is so easy to get in a rut when you entertain for the same thing a lot (like pool parties). Thanks for helping me freshen it up!

One of our go-to snacks for company is popcorn cooked on the stovetop. It doesn't take that long but is a nice alternative to buying and storing chips.

Red grapes freeze so well! We prefer them frozen. Also, frozen bananas, served with sprinkles.
