when she is 12 years old and no longer fits into the girls section of dresses?
She is still a girl, but must wear women's clothing. Is there an alternative?
I have been looking for quite some time and stumbled upon this site
modest dress
click on casual dresses and perhaps some of these are a possibility.
The models are sometimes quite busty, which my daughter is not. There is not much info about the dresses....Has anyone ordered from this site?
I would actually prefer a younger style but beggars can't be choosers.

Stephanie, when my girls were in that "between" stage I did two things:
-scoured petite departments, especially Land's End overstocks (sometimes petite skirts can be on sale for a very good price!)
-bought from this place because they have "girls" sizes up to 20 (and a girl can do a lot with a skirt or two in basic colors!).
Petite clothes can help with the "not yet busty" problem, as petite clothes are often cut a full bust size *smaller* than their comparable size number in regular women's clothes.

We just sort of came out of that too. I agree about the petite. My dd needs misses tops but still petite bottoms. I also second Lands End and also places that have some nice basics. You can find decent things at JCPenneys and even Old Navy right now is having a nice sale on clothes. I feel like Old Navy cycles between the immodest and the modest and right now I've been having some luck finding more modest things there. Oh and take a look at Chadwicks (sorry I don't have links for these), a friend of mine found some great skirts, over the knee, there too.

We do ebay for Strasburg, Lands End, Cottontail dresses. I have a 14 year old who still needs a smaller dress.

Even though they're a bit pricey, the clothes available at Hanna Andersson in women's sizes, to me, are perfect for that in between phase for young girls.

Thanks for the petite suggestion. I am so NOT petite I would have never thought of it myself.
Any suggestions for an Easter dress for our girls?

We have the same challenge for my 13 year old. Rather than dresses, she wears a lot of skirts and T-shirts. We stop by the Goodwill store every so often and can occasionally find a few nice long skirts for her. It sort of helps that long skirts aren't really in style for most women right now so folks are clearing them out of their closets. 
We can also occasionally find some skirts at Hanna but they tend to run too short for her. Dd is very tall for her age.

I have the same problem with my soon to be 13YO - she's slim - too big for the 16girls slim and too small for the smallest woman's size (just went through the sizing at Land's End). This got us to talking about designing and starting a line of clothing just for girls, starting with this age group/size. We've got the process all laid out on paper to,at the very least, pull together a project for "school." My two girls are very excited about this - I'm anxious to see where this will take them. I told them this may be a Looonnng project, but I encouraged them to stick with it since I feel they may have talent in this area! You should see all the clothing and other catalogs they've created in the past years  Who knows - maybe all that doodling and playing will actually pay off! Wouldn't that be neat?!

I have a 12yo girl too...we have had some luck poking around in thrift/consignment stores in the women's section. This works best with clothing where perfect length isn't an issue, like capri pants, skirts, etc., and in clothing with elastic waists. We've had good luck finding certain kinds of shirts, but it's hard...many of the shirts are too big through the shoulders and necklines so that even modest necklines are...not so modest. :) But tops in the junior section, if they aren't too low cut, are too short an her or too snug in the bodice for my standards...she's a rather, erm, well endowed 12yo, God love her.

Our 12 yo wears a lot of Lands End from overstocks. They go to size 16 and are very generous. Kaleigh is 5'5" and about 130 lbs. She fits into most things we buy from LE> Good luck.
