Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do I need a special needle when sewing satin? If so, what kind?

Any other words of wisdom for a beginner?

I think a ball point needle would be advisable. Advice: Hand Baste everything together first! (ask me why I say that....)

Peace,
Nancy

OK, why do you recommend hand basting? ;) It looks like this project is going to take a lot longer than I thought!

Where can I buy a ball point needle? If I have a Singer sewing machine, do I have to buy Singer brand needles? There used to be several store that sold Singer machines and accessories in my area. Now it seems that all of the Singer stores are gone. I'm finding it difficult to find basics like bobbins that will fit my machine.

Because it slides Amazingly. All over. Ask me how I know. Not quite as badly as chiffon (which is a nightmare), but pretty badly. What's the fibre content? Silk is more slippery than polyester.
