Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love cooking - I mean, I really love to cook. I like to cut the food, play with the tastes and textures, etc.

So I was wondering - do you enjoy cooking? See, I hate washing dishes. Some people hate laundry. Etc. Is cooking your "ick" chore, do you just tolerate it, do you like it, or do you love it?

And then I wondered if that is why I am a freezer cook failure. I have tried to even do like my cooking for a week at a time...and I am *bad* at it. If I do it - at first I feel very accomplished and happy that I have saved so much time and planning! But as the days go by, I look at the meals, with a growing disdain. Sometimes outright resentment as I feel I need to use up what I prepared but I don't wanna!

Just wondering what you all do...

oh my.. that sounds just like me Laura.. I hate to have things so planned out there's no room for "playing".

I have found things that work well for me.. I make up meatballs and freeze them raw (on cookie sheets and then move to freezer bags) with a basic seasoning.. then when I want I can just dump them from the freezer bag to the pan and still have room for what seasonings I could sprinkle on them or if I want to use them in a soup or a sauce.. (tonight I made a bbq type sauce for them)

Slicing chunks of cheap meat into strips and freezing them the same way.. makes them easy to cook from freezer.. saves me tons of prep time.. but I still get to use them in stroganoff or stir fry or a yummy marinade and grill them on skewers or.. whatever..

So I do prep ahead of time but not so far that it prevents me from being spontaneous in the cooking.

I had so much fun tonight.. the kitchen was clean.. and I made italian bread.. easy recipe.. but on one of the loaves.. you roll it out flat and then roll into the loaves.. well after it was flat I covered it with poppy seeds and then rolled it up and dusted the top after brushing with egg white with poppy seeds too. I did a plain one as well since I didn't know if all the kids would like the poppy seeds.. but it was GOOD. And I made up the bbq sauce recipe.. ketchup (though I did consider starting from tomato sauce) and red wine vinegar and brown sugar and emeril's seasoning.. yummy with just a bit of kick.. not too spicy for the littles either.

I love, love, love to cook, too. I love to create something for my family. I love the process, the creativity and the whole experience. I don't mind the clean-up. In fact, I just KNOW that no-one can clean the kitchen and load the dishwasher as perfectly as I can. In order to stock the freezer, I will make large batches, freeze half and then work the stuff in the freezer into my rotation when I'm feeling like it again, or when we will be rushed around mealtime.

Love to cook. Love it. Hate to follow recipes, but love reading about food. My husband thinks my enormous recipe book collection is funny. One of my favourite food writers described his reaction to reading a recipe as seeing a dish wildly signaling to him to be let out, instead of a nuts-and-bolts list of directions to follow. I feel the same way.

I do some freezer cooking, for the nights when I'm tired, and I batch cook and freeze my husband's lunches. I bake and freeze bread and cake about once a week.

I also hate to do dishes. My least favourite chore.
