My 4 year old son eats an insane amount of food! He has been up for 3 1/2 hours today and so far has consumed:
1 cup of yogurt
1 banana
1 cup of blueberries
1 avacado
1 bowl of oatmeal
2 hard boiled eggs
3 breakfast sausages
1 bowl of shredded wheat
1 cup of kefir
1 cup of mango juice
2 cups of water
Do I cut him off? He is a skinny little thing, 45 inches and only 34 pounds. He eats healthy. Should I just let him self regulate as long as it is good food?
I worry because my dh and I are both severely overweight and 2 of my kids are chubbier than I would like (but both are just pre-puberty so that could explain the sudden weight gain)

I think a big question is how active or how sedentary is he??
My boys all eat like this, but they are working out up to two hours per day,(soccer, wrestling, football) besides "free play" sledding in the yard, etc.
the list of foods looks simiar to what I offer too (except we have turkey sausage if we have it).
I would look at adding or subtracting exercise to the equation, not necessarily the food...

Has he always eaten like this? Maybe he's in for a growth spurt in the near future?

No he has eaten like this since he was weaned about a year ago. Prior to weaning, he nursed constantly, even at alomst 3 years old.
He is fairly active. You know, the 4 year old that must keep up with the 14 year old. He has no fat on his frame and is very muscular.
The boy eats more than I do most days

I think that I would let him eat, but try to make sure he isn't just bored by limiting food to mealtime and maybe making a mid-morning snack time (maybe after active time outdoors or something), but requiring that the food be eaten in a sitting instead of allowing him to randomly ask for food whenever he's hungry.
Its okay to be hungry and have to wait sometimes, but it does sound like he needs the food for energy at this time, so I wouldn't necessarily limit the amount, just the opportunity.
You might offer water more, too, since sometimes our bodies tell us it is hunger when its really thirst. However, it looks like he drinks a lot, and he's not putting on fat--so that might not be it.

He sounds like my 4 yo. We often wonder if he's part Hobbit.(First Breakfast, Second Breakfast, etc.) He's our only one that eats that way. Sounds normal to me.
