I just searched the whole house for our ornaments and they appear to be MIA!!! (i.e. missing!!) I think I have maybe 3 that were with the lights. I cannot afford to buy ornaments at this late date and wonder if you all have any ideas for ornaments I could easily make with the kids in a few days time??? I thought of these so far:
stringing popcorn (is this hard to do??)
gingerbread men
holy cards glued on construction paper with glitter
quick little mini quilts of angels or something???
salt dough ornaments??
Any other ideas??? How depressing, huh? These ornaments that are missing are ornaments we received when we first got married and for all the "first" babies etc. I am so disappointed, but trying to keep it in perspective. I am wondering if they accidentally got tossed in a basement "purge". Please say a prayer to St. Anthony as I would miss things like the beautiful little painted sand dollar with our wedding year on it and our names etc. that we received the first year we were married. 
Also, looking at all of my Christmas decorations made me think that I really need to plan ahead next year. How do you all pull off budgeting in for Christmas with all the other needs throughout the year? It seems as if we get to the end of the year, and all the money is gone! My husband told me to cling to the inspiration of "my beloved Little House" (i.e A Little House on the Prairie Christmas) as he put it since things are so tight! Funny, huh??  There is always a lot of financial stress concerning Christmas, and while I don't want to go "hog wild" or anything, it would be nice to have the freedom to relax and do it well. I do think a good idea is what some of you all have shared concerning getting everything accomplished prior to Advent as far as preperation or shopping. I just keep telling myself to let Jesus handle Christmas this year and have a "wait and see what He does" approach to inspire some Christmas spirit in myself. As a control freak, I think I can often think I have to "pull off" a great memory for the kids, when maybe God has His own plans for our Christmas, and I should wait and be surprised. Perhaps the reason for the lost ornaments????

Another idea would be foil origami since my boys are good at that. Might be pretty?

Aw, Kim, I'm so sorry. I do pray they will turn, even after Christmas. My grandmother lost all her her ornaments one year. They were stolen by the movers!
This recent thread had some simple ideas.

Oh, Kim, how frustrating you aren't able to find them. I do pray they turn up. A few years back we could not find the box with our Fontanini figures. I searched and searched and since it was not where it should have been was sure it had been tossed somehow with empty boxes after Christmas. We did end up eventually finding it - I must have overlooked it numerous times in my searches.
Anyway, to your request: Sarah asked about easy homemade ornaments last week. Here is the thread with some ideas. The ones with the chenile stems (with or without beads) are super easy and really cute.
EDITED: OK, Jenn and I were posting at the same time. So hope thet thread holds some ideas.

We strung popcorn and cranberries this year and the are lovely.
pipe cleaners and pony beads shaped into candy canes
pipe cleaners and little bells
borax crystal stars (if you have boraz and pipe cleaners these are super easy)
paper chains -I have big kids do this and make the chain with tiny loops-this is really pretty
cinnamon and glue cookie cutter cut-out ornaments-these smell heavenly
A lot of these are on my blog posts, from this and last Christmas. Our tree decorations are always very "homemade".
I hope some of these suggestions help. I have sent off a prayer to Saint Anthony to help locate your treasures from years past.

An orange covered in cloves
styro foam balls covered in sequins
pipe cleaner and bead stars
cinnamon applesauce cut outs
(1 cup cinnamon, 1 cup applesauce)
paper chains, especially pretty if you use wrapping paper
handprint reindeer
handprint wreath
stuffed fabric shapes (great for fabric scraps)
I am sorry about your ornaments. We lost all of ours this summer in a flood, so I feel your pain.

We have hung small stuffed animals and small toys to fill in bare spots on the tree. They look cute except the littles won't leave them alone. Then again, they don't leave any ornaments alone.

Sorry, Mary! I wanted to mention something about those Christmas card ornaments I mention in the previous thread. My eighth grade teacher taught us this for art. When she was newly married she made these to decorate her Christmas tree when she had no money to buy anything else.
