Ok, so the long list of projects I hoped to do while dh is gone.....not one item crossed off the list.  I think I still have time to fix up our bed and bath before he comes home.
I found this Amy Butler Nigella. I bought 1 yard of the first design, starflower tiles in forest. They had more, I just want to make sure I love it before I invest. I have had it in my room for a week now and I love it.
Here is where I need help. I don't want to make a quilt. I thought one idea would be to get another 1 yard panel and have two panels with a solid fabric between and around the panels, then another pattern as a trim.
Or, I could get two sheets, and use the wood fern in olive as the trim, the starflower tiles as pillows. I could get one sheet in a pretty blue and one in brown?? and flip it seasonally.
Or, I could buy one of the fabrics that does not require me to match the pattern and make the duvet with that.
The furniture in our room, is dark, maybe cherry??
I want to paint our bathroom waterfall. And I am using my shell collection for accents.
What would you do? Any ideas what color I should paint our bedroom??

I vote with these ideas... cuz they sound the easiest. 
What color is your room now? What kind of sun does it get? Do you like dark rooms for sleeping or bright rooms for waking up?

If you want to make a duvet cover easy-schmeezy, get two flat sheets one size smaller than your down quilt (so if you have a queen, use a full) and sew three sides (the two long and one short) and then finish one end with velcro, snaps, or even ribbon ties to coordinate. The reason for the smaller size is that you want the cover to hold in the down and help keep it fluffy ...
I would definitely go with lighter rather than darker colors -- especially for winter doldrums....

I made a duvet cover for twin once and used full. I thought I had to use the BIGGER size. So I keep thinking I want to make a duvet cover for our King, but where would I get bigger than King sheets? I'm kinda having a hard time picturing the king duvet in a queen cover though, Mary. Won't they bunch up more inside? Or is that the goal?

Stef, if you use queen-sized sheets, you are actually closer to the dimensions of the king comforter than with king sheets (as the comforter isn't usually tucked in  ). Does that make sense?

LOL As you can see, I have not thought this through. So THAT'S why the duvet keeps on shifting around in the cover.... and my son finds that sooo annoying. Big duh...  Pardon my brain -- it isn't working much these days... I'm just going with the flow....

Good to know about going one size down. We have a king so I was thinking about getting queen sized sheets and adding trim. I would like to put some trim on it. Should I use full size sheets and add trim to make it the size of a queen? I could make a little flap like thing for the top, sorta like a sandwich baggie??
Maryan, our walls are builders grade off-white at the present.
Our room has southern exposure so it gets ALOT of sun. Most of our house is full of super bright colors. I would like our room to be a little more restful. Currently, we have disgusting PINK vertical blinds,  I really want to replace them, but maybe I can just cover them up????

But builder grade off-white is so pretty... why would you want to change?
So... are you brave enough to do brown? I think I would be tempted with the cool colors in that fabric. A friend of mine has her living/dining area in brown that gets a lot of sun and it's very warm and restful IMO. But it's a radical color to paint from bgow.

the mochay-tan color would warm up the walls without making it too dark ... you could always accent with a thin line of darker brown.
Our old house in Denver has such dark walls -- it would takes 5 coats of BGOW to cover. It's easier to darken it with accessories while still keeping the walls a complimentary lighter color.

Mary Chris - Not sure if you've seen any of these sites...but I thought they were neat for figuring out which colors evoke which mood in decorating...

I had a lot of fun researching moods and colors when painting our house. I hate painting, but I love the effects when you choose a good color and it seems to click. Did I mention I hate painting?
I love the "waterfall" color for your bathroom! It is very soothing. A decorator once told me to stay in the same hue value for adjoining rooms or the difference would seem too bold or too washed out depending on the room you were going into.
I think Maryan's idea of a brown theme would be lovely in the bedroom, you could choose a coordinating brown that goes with your starflower pattern and then look on the color sample chart at the store and find a hue that is the same as waterfall in the bathroom. Maybe just paint a small part of the wall and live with it for a few days to see how it looks at varying times of day and up next to your fabric swatch?
What a fun project...but surely the pink blinds will have to go?

I am sitting here watching paint dry! I used a mochay-tan color in our old house, I loved that color. In our current house we used it in the laundry room , not the right color for that room, but how could I admit I was wrong and make dh paint it again. Anyway, I had paint leftover so I slapped it up on the bedroom walls....LOVE IT! Thanks so much for the suggestion!
This will be a good way for me to use up all my anxious energy. We are just about 2 months to homecoming!!!!
So who wants to come over and help me move furniture????
As much as I love the waterfall color, I think I am going to find a color with more blue in it. I had only invested in a trial size amount of paint, so no big loss. Maybe I'll use it in the laundry room.
Any ideas on places to look for sheets for the duvet cover? And what kind???? High thread count or cheap??

Oh good Mary Chris!
And I vote high thread count. I have no idea where you buy it though. Last time I bought sheets I did overstock.com... because I needed new sheets and I didn't want to walk in a store. But... how could I go wrong when I was ordering white!
So are you moving furniture as we speak?

MC -- the waterfall would be excellent in the laundry room! And we can certainly come out one day next week (after Tuesday as we've got company) so we can real-learn while doing the physics of moving furniture, figure out (so math class) how much you saved having us come, and do the socialization thing they always say us homeschoolers don't do! Let us know what you need.

size of sheets--
I tried to do this last year and found that the sheets I bought were too small. I wanted to make flannel duvet covers for the kids' beds b/c they never use their top sheets, plus our house is cold. In the end all the sheets I bought ended up being used as . . . sheets! And I found flannel duvet covers very inexpensively on Amazon.com !
In any case, if you buy a bigger sheet, it is not difficult to cut it down, but it doesn't work the other way. Comforters can vary in size.
Ross is a good place to find single queen or king sized flat sheets for cheap  You definately want a quality cotton sheet because it will be right against your body. Brands like Ralph Lauren or Tommy H. are usually high quality.
Color is so tricky. In a former house I had a solid red comforter which I totally loved. In this house, the room even though the walls are cream the room is just darker, and my bed just reminded me of . . . blood . So I bought a white duvet cover and it totally changed the room. I think it depends a lot on the light--the only windows in our room are rather high up and face north. Also to think about how you want to feel in your bedroom.
