Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is there such a thing as a grinder that can be used for coffee and flour and does a good job on both? All the ones I've seen seem to be just for one or the other.

Tracey - Most mills that will mill flours cannot mill coffee beans or any other high moisture content bean. I have a Whisper Mill and they specifically mention coffee as a no-no.

I thought you might find this page helpful.

Thanks Jennifer! I figured it must be something like that. However, I looked at the other grinder at the link you sent, this one. It says it can do both? Does anyone have this one, the Family Grain Mill from Pleasant Hill Grain? I like that it has both an electric base and a hand base.

I have that one as well, Tracy. It was our first grain mill. We don't have the electric base to it. It is a good mill. Here are the problems I was having with it...

**it is a hand crank mill - talk about an upper body workout!
**I was grinding often and the hand grinding became a drag - I confess, I'm lazy and I needed an electric kitchen helper.
**It doesn't mill as finely as electric mills. For some people this is just fine. If you're looking for pastry fine flour though, you won't get it out of the Family Grain Mill.

So...just so you know what you're getting into with the hand crank mill. It IS a good product and will mill both wheat berries and your coffee. Because you can dissassemble the milling burrs (actually stainless steel burrs) and clean them between each use, you don't have to worry about a high moisture content bean clogging up the burrs.

PM me Tracy if you're interested in this mill. I use my Whisper mill exclusively and I'd love to sell the Family Grain Mill and see it go to a good home and get some use. (I have the Hand Base and the Grain Mill attachment.) But...no pressure!!!! You may want to purchase something new.
