Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Cherries were on sale this week. Fun!

Did a search in the archives, found I had already asked once on recipes for cherries.

I still have egg, wheat, and dairy allergies to contend with, but did think that dh might like a cherry pie or something. Anyone have a gluten free pie crust they like?

Any ideas for non-cooked cherries? I usually make a fruit salad, but...

Just itching to be creative with my cherries.

Cherries Jubilee over non-dairy ice cream was my first thought, Jenn, and that site,   Northwest Cherries has a ton of delicious recipes with yummy pictures (because pictures of food are soooo important!). Make sure you check out her Salad Section, lots of egg, wheat and dairy free deliciousness there!

The pie crust I'm at a loss for though, would a cobbler or grunt or buckle work if it uses oatmeal or cornmeal or some other sort of -meal instead?

ETA: I just clicked over and saw Stef has you covered in the crisp department with a delicious Redwall Cherry Crisp with oats and almonds rather than flour, it sounds yummy!

Thanks, Jennifer. I wasn't clear. I was asking for a regular pie crust, not allergy friendly. Dh can still eat that, and I wanted to treat him.

Yes, that would be what I would want ... a cherry crisp.
Here is my mum's recipe for pie crust.

2 1/4 Cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening (we always used Crisco)
cold water

Sift flour and salt. Cut in shortening. Add water (sparingly ... you can always add more).
Knead, roll, and cut.

Bake in a 450 oven for 12-15 minutes, if needed.

This is a great southern recipe and we always get raves. Let your ds knead the dough, so he can be a part of the plan. Have fun!
