Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need some suggestions, please. My oldest ds's girlfriend (whom I ADORE!) had surgery on her hand today. She's doing well but sore, as you can imagine. I'd like to send her a pretty gift basket with a few items like fair trade coffee, maybe some good chocolate, a cute cup, a few little "spoiling" items, with a total of about $60 plus shipping. I googled "fair trade gift baskets" but frankly was put off by some sites that seem to have a different political agenda than I have. I'm very much for fair trade, but some sites seem to veer toward a more radical feminist point of view. Can anyone recommend a site to me so I can order something to make Jess feel better and tell her I'm thinking about her (oh, she's not Catholic, so I don't want to send religious items. She's a brilliant, lovely and fun journalism major. All our younger children simply adore her).

Thanks if you can help,
Mary Alice in Kansas
oh, and you can pray for a quick recovery before her senior year of college starts in mid-August, if you would.

I've ordered from Global Exchange before and been happy with the products and service.

I have no idea about any political things re: them or their site.

We've ordered from Ten Thousand Villages and I've been very pleased with the products. However, like Melanie, I have no idea what their political stance is.

I have ordered from A Greater Gift for Christmas the last two years and have been happy with it.

This is what my girls voted that we send Jess, so thanks a lot ladies. I'm bookmarking the other sites for future gifts. I just got a little scared off by one website that had coffee with Che Guevara on it!!! Or others that promised "mystical healing stones from the goddess". Yikes!!!

My ds called last evening and said that Jess was feeling pretty well. Driving is hard, though.

Thanks for the great suggestions!
