I am enjoying hanging my clothes on the line. I am so proud that I have not used my dryer in almost 2 weeks  The one problem I have is with clothes pins. Because I have a front loader I am often hanging a large amount of clothes out and hence have alot of clothes pins. I keep them in 2 half gallon buckets, but it is really inconvenient and the pins are always spilling out. What do you hold your clothes pins in??

I keep them in a basket and put a bunch in my apron pocket so they are within easy reach while I hang clothes. When I run out, I just refill my pockets.

You can use 2 larger size S-hooks to attach to each of your buckets (on either side of the handle) to your clothesline or try setting the buckets (or baskets) of clothespins on a taller stool or chair to eliminate bending over. One of my grandmothers had aprons with really deep pockets and she kept her clothespins handy in her pockets. As an alternative I might try one of the inexpensive canvas tool belts that tie around the waist. If you have the type with a spring (I can't think of the name of them) you could have younger children make a game of attaching clothespins to the hem of an apron or tool belt and simply remove them as you need them, or better yet, it could be a child's special job to hand you clothespins. You could try a hanger or S-hook with a cloth bag attached, or sew a "saddlebag" to attach to your clothesbasket. They make special clothespin bags with a wire loop that is designed to hook over the line, but I find them difficult to reach into and usually quite small for the large number of clothespins we tend to use. In the area where we live the Amish leave their clothespins attached to the line...that's how we recognize an Amish home if there isn't a horsedrawn buggy in sight.

I keep mine in a basket. I keep the basket near the laundry basket I'm haning from, and fill my apron as needed.

I have a vintage clothes pin bag I picked up at a local antique market. I love it for its form (I have thing for vintage housekeeping items) and function...it has a wire that hooks right over the line so the pins are within reach at all times.

We all use the clotheslines here.
The girls do not remove the pins after use, so they just stay out on the lines.
When I was the only one that could reach the lines, they went ina bag that hung on the line. The bag was hang from a child's size hanger and moved along the line as I hung.

I leave the clothes pins on the line as well.. and use pockets to carry extra or tuck extras away as I move down the line.. and I have a tin on the dryer(right inside the door so handy) for the extras.

Like Colleen, I like the vintage clothes pin bags - it's what I remember from my grandmother's farm. I found some cute patterns for vintage and modern looking bags.

I was just given this pegbag for my birthday. It really cheers up the endless laundry cycle.
If you're handy, I'd imagine it would be easy enough to sew some pretty material round a coat-hanger.

The only problem I've had with some sort of bag or bucket on the line.. is that I have small boys that seem to think they're some sort of pinata

When I was a child, I remember my mother cutting the top upper part (opposite the handle) out of a gallon milk jug and then cutting a small portion off at the bottom of the handle. That way she hung it on the line by the milk jug handle and slid it along as she worked with the clothespins facing her. Not too fancy or pretty a solution, but it worked.

I think that the winds here would blow away anything I hung (ie, the vintage pin holders with a regular hanger-style hook, or even the S-hook style) permanently on the line.
So I leave them on the line permanently, and have extras in the bottom of the basket, if I need them. I have an umbrella styled clothesline (came with the house) and while I really really like it, since I can stay in one spot (out of the sun, keep it out of my eyes, whatever) and spin it around, it does make the pinning interesting sometimes (robbing section 1 to completely pin up section 4--I split the clothes/things by who they belong to--girls in one section, DH and I in another, boys in the third, and the fourth is reserved for towels, misc bedding, and dishtowels/washcloths).
But it works. I told DH I wanted another just like it (first we need to remove the nasty Mimosa tree from right there, and we'll have a ready made hole he won't have to dig, lol).
