Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

List your kids' favorite ways of eating raw veggies!!

In the summer, it's all about raw as opposed to cooked vegetables. But my dc don't always like my idea of delicious raw vegetables or salads.

What do your kids like and eat?

My son says he's all about the dips. He likes all the usual favorites -- carrots, celery, green peppers, red peppers, cucumbers, broccoli and cauliflower. Carrots came up most. For dips he likes hummus, ranch dressing, poppyseed dressing, and "that veggie dip you buy in the tub".

In our home, it seems that dips play an important role, too!

ds9: (my Aspie with severe sensory issues especially relating to food) hates all veggies. can't handle dips. will eat a few raw carrots under duress while holding nose.      will eat the tops of well-cooked broccoli. that's about it.

dd6: will eat whatever veggie you hand her - except brussel srouts (which happen to be my fave.) LOVES to dip in hummus, especially, but will happily use ranch, blue cheese, peanut butter, or (blech, ick,) ketchup as a dip. One of her first words was tomato (twa-mo) and will eat a whole one by herself.

She loves it when I make them look funny - like little mice or using cookie cutters on peppers, etc. Ds will also say how cute and neat they look. but still won't eat them.

Chop Salad is fun. You chop up a lot of veggies, but DON'T use lettuce.

oh, corn & black bean salad (with tomato and onion and cilantro) wrapped into sof taco shells or scooped up with    chips.

one of my faves is sliced up cucumber and sweet onion with vinegar & oil dressing. (throw in a bit of sugar and it cuts the acidity.) My Dad always had this concoction marinating in the fridge over the summer (we grew the veggies). Sometimes throw in tomatoes right before eating, with crusty bread....okay I am hungry now.....

I've been getting veggies in my son through smoothies. This is not my ideal way of getting them in him, but it's better than nothing!

We do the dips here, too, especially ranch dressing. But presentation does alot, too. Everything from funny faces to making their plate look like a "fancy" platter.

I swear there's something about growing it themselves that makes them want to eat it outside of mealtime. I can't keep my kids from eating straight from the garden *without WASHING* but some are really finiky when I put the same foods on the table.

I set out a plate of raw veggies/salad on the table for them to munch on while I make dinner. It occupies them so I can work in the kitchen and it keeps their hunger at bay. If they don't eat much of the meal, at least I know they filled up on something healthy.
