If you've ever considered learning or teaching your daughters how to spin or weave, I encourage you to do it.
Clara and I have gotten into the fiber world recently and are having so much fun. She is learning quickly and has an enthusiasm that lights up a room.
We got started with friends that are involved with a local historical society that offers apprenticeships. If you are looking into this, I would recommend starting there.
Seems this is a skill that comes naturally to young girls.
Here are some pictures of Clara's first attempts at weaving and spinning.

Donna,
What lovely pictures. I want to learn to do this (along with a couple of dd) but didn't know where to go about looking for where to do it. I have done some felting and love working with wool. SO would you suggest looking at a local historical society vs. a spinning and weaving group? Unfortunantly, we live so far from everything. I am sure our little town doesn't have one (either) so we would have to drive an hour to find one. BTW, I have a Clara too!

Yes, yes and yes ... and the more they can play with good fiber (real wool, real cotton, real linen) the more they'll enjoy it and be able to keep the item as a family heirloom! (altho, I do have an acrylic granny square afghan I made back in high school -- more than 30 years ago -- whose colors are still just as bright and obnoxious as they were when I made it !)
Add knitting to your list Donna and I'm with you 100%!

I have been thinking alot about you lately, Mary .
Gotta admit, though....the whole knit one, pearl two thing scares me a bit. Seems tough to learn.

Nah, I taught myself at 8 ... it's really not that hard at all! I did a blog post about this last year (I think for Jenn GM maybe), Shhhhh .... don't tell anyone that might have some helpful suggestions for you. Also, once I'm on the East Coast again maybe we can set up knitting times!
