Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am in a throwing out girl clothes frame of mind this week BUT I just had to get those Opp Shop bags out again and get out all the denim!!!

I cut the pockets from the jeans that had embroidery on them and sewed them together to make adorable little, tiny purses for my daughters. I used half of the waistband, attached to the inside edge, to make the strap. You could also use a belt etc.

Then, I took an immodest skirt someone had given us, we get lots of hand me downs since we have so many girls (Thank you Lord!), but sometimes they are a bit out of style for our house. Anyway, I took the ruffle off the bottom of the skirt and used it for the shoulder strap. Then, I sewed the little shorts that were under the shorts together, after clipping the middle to make it even, to make the inside of the "purse" and then I sewed together the bottom of the skirt. (Inside out, but then flipped it AND if it does have a lining, as with skorts, you have to leave an opening in the lining to flip the outer skirt through. I leaned this the hard way. ) The skort purse looks SOOOOO cute and if I can ever get my blog updated, I will post it there. But, there are so many ideas for making little purses.

My daughter also had a lot of jeans that had embroidery at the bottom of the legs. I took this section and cut it into a longer, rectangle shapped purse and used again, part of the waistband for the shoulder strap. You can even sew the waistband on the outside of the purse so the button will show and look interesting. (One could also use wire with beads for a handle on the purse, but trying to have it be a completely "no purchase" project, I opted for what I could salvage from the jeans.)

I think it was the most fun I ever had sewing for starters, because I just love denim!! And, secondly, there is no right or wrong way to do it! It was fun to be creative and have a project that I could finish in such little time. I made 4 purses just last night!!!

What a cute idea! And I just donated a bunch of old jeans! But I'm sure some of us will be outgrowing more soon. I just hope it isn't me!
