Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

After staying up late and reading about the wonderful things you ladies are making, I was inspired. I went to our local Joanne Etc. store, and bought supplies.
I have tissue paper in many colors, pink and purple cardstock in many shades, other assorted cardstock colors, assorted pipe cleaners, and felt in all colors too.
I am hoping to make some inspiring crafts that help us live the liturgical year more fully. Of course, the focus is Advent and Christmas right now. Things that are fun to make with a 14 yob, 9 yog, 5 yog and 1 1/2 yog. We have glue,a glue gun, markers, crayons, colored pencils and eager hands!
Do you creative moms have some ideas for me?

In Christ,

Leocea

We made a felt Nativity scene one year. I used a simple child's coloring book for the patterns.

Here's a link to a pipe cleaner and yarn Nativity scene we have also made.

Away in a Manger

Both of them are easily expandable to figures for the stories of the entire Liturgical year.

We made decoupage votive candleholders...you can buy glass ones at a craft shop or use baby food jars. Dilute glue with a little water (so you can paint it) and use the diluted glue to stick tissue paper onto the glass jars or candleholders. My son made a striped one, while my daughter tore up different shades of pink tissue paper and glued them on randomly. (Ds is 15 and dd is 9, but your 5yo could do this, too.)

Last year we made Dawn's "stained glass window stars" during Advent. If you look through her December 06 archive you'll find other stained glass window ideas and lots of construction paper and glitter crafts and more.

Today being the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, you could make Papel Picado. If you do a google search, you'll come up with many more elaborate designs, many for Day of the Dead (Halloween), but many for feasts too. We made this last year as well.

You could color and decorate or draw a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe and then either mount it on card stock (sprinkled with glitter?) or make a small grotto for it.

How to draw Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe coloring page. There is a more cartoon-like version at Coloring Saints. Search by Feast Day.

Even though we're part way through Advent, you could make an Advent Wreath out of cardstock and paper, then use either pipe cleaner or construction paper to make a flame for each candle. The flames could be taped on each Sunday. You could make one out of felt too (stuffed with cotton). (In Dawn's archive you'll see a construction paper Advent Wreath. We have one that is similar but the candles are painted wooden dowels and the flames are pipe cleaner.)
