Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Let me start by saying that I am not very good at crafts. I'm one of those who are big on ideas and sorely lacking in talent when it comes to execution.

I can't remember what thread on here was talking about Advent Calendars when someone mentioned that every year they made a Advent Calendar using paper rings in pink and purple for each child to count down the days to Christmas. Well, I didn't want to be cutting out strips forever every year, and we're short on pink and purple paper after a slew of homemade valentines were made last February.

So I came up with an idea that I thought I would pass on for the craftily challenged like me. I bought two sheets of purple and one sheet of pink felt. I cut it into 1" strips and used sticky back velcro closures to make the rings. We will have to be careful undoing the velcro, so sewing on the velcro would probably hold better (if only I could sew). I decided to use pink to represent Sundays and Christmas Eve and purple for the rest of the days. I kept the extra rings since Advent will start early next year. I figure I'll hang it up using some string and push pins; I just have to figure out where.

I also thought about eventually trying to get some sort of marker to write Advent-related things on various rings. Does anyone know what kind of marker/glitter pen/whatever would be good for using on felt? It would also need to be something that could show up on dark purple.

Barbara -- this sounds like a wonderful idea! Very crafty, y'know!
