Yes or No?
I just want a basic inexpensive machine to sew straight lines with. I'm fine with curtains and pillows, maybe one of those pencil holders, or some flannel pants.
Does anyone have experience with them and willing to share.........

I have one--the most basic model, and I really like it. You can try to find out who the real manufacturer is and see if theirs is a machine you want to own. Mine is 7 years old and was made by some fabulous Japanese company apparently. I was really frustrated with it for a while because the stitches were very messed up, but the sewing machine repairman pointed out that if I would thread the bobbin correctly, it would work fine.

I have a basic Kenmore too -- from about six years ago!!
I only sew straight lines -- and very few of them. It's been fine. But my machine gets pulled out... hmmm... maybe once a year?? And I have to reread how to thread the bobbin correctly EVERY TIME I use it because I forget.
My sister just made two Halloween costumes with it, though!!

I used a Kenmore for YEARS and loved it! It was so dependable! About 8 years ago I switched to a school model Singer and while it does more, it is not as rugged and dependable, but you get used to the machine you have, so I am content.

I've had my Kenmore for 28 years. I'd buy another one!

Thank you!
Now to pick the machine. I was so overwhelmed in the sewing machine aisle yesterday. I think I will go with the mid price basic model. As much as I would love to quilt I don't see it happening anytime soon. I just asked my dear friend to finish the quilt I started for my ds's first bday, he'll be 8 in March , really it just needs to have the binding sewn on. Anyhoo, I'll do some more research and send dh back to Sear's tomorrow so I can hopefully make some Christmas gifts (on time )

My basic Kenmore is about 23 yrs old.
I know a lady is one amazing and incredible seamstress.............and I was shocked to find she had the same basic machine as me
Enjoy!

I have a basic Kenmore I bought reconditioned on ebay. All the places that it says "Kenmore" in the user's manual have been blacked out, but it's a Kenmore. I got it three years ago for a song and it has been fantastic. It is very easy to use and sturdy enough for the types of jobs I do. I recently quilted my wedding chuppah with it and was very pleased with both the process and the results.

Ha! You sound exactly like me!!
I have a kenmore that I like--it must be 9 years old now? At the time it was top rated by Consumer reports.
I was thrilled to discover the other day that you can actually buy already-wound bobbins!! That is the part I always seem to forget/mess up!
