Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am considering maybe, possibly, trying to make a doll. I have looked at the doll kits from:

Weir Dolls

Dancing Rain Dolls

and

Joy's

I have minimal sewing skills, but I am a pretty good crafter. I have never made a doll, before, though.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these kits - or possibly another not listed? Suggestions? (Like should I get a preformed head? Pre-sewn pieces? Or is it pretty straight-forward?)

Thanks so much for any help!

Which doll are you thinking of making?

I think Im going to try the flannel doll some time in the near future.

The "heavy babies" are amazing...they feel like the real thing. My son's kindergarden teacher used to offer workshops for making them. If there is a Waldorf/Steiner school near you, they may be able to offer you some guidance. If you are talking about the dolls other than the simple flannel ones or the bunting ones, from what I understand, they are not a beginner-level (as far as doll-making goes) project. But, Ive never made one.
Please let me know if you take on this project and how it goes.

I'm planning to make Joy's Honey dolls for Christmas this year. I am fairly experienced, and haven't tried one of her kits as yet, but they look fairly simple. I will say that one of my very first sewing projects ever was a stuffed dog from a kit. It came out just great. You'll do fine!

Just take your time, follow the instructions and ask questions here if you get stuck.

I made the Waldorf doll from Weir two Christmases ago, it was fairly easy to make and fun!
