Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need ideas for a preschool rosary craft and I need to be able to get the supplies by Friday. Our Catholic homeschool group is making Ranger Rosaries to send to our deployed troops and I just sent out an email asking for a head count so I can have enough supplies on hand.

One mom, this will be her first meeting, asked if I thought it was too much for her to have to help both her 5 yo twins and her 3 yo dd make the rosaries, and if it is, they'll just skip.

Well, I don't want her to skip the meeting, but I really don't think that a 3 yo will be capable of threading 59 pony beads and knotting parachute cord! In the same email I asked that all the parents be prepared to help their dc make the knots, but I figured that the preschoolers and toddlers would just sort of play by themselves like they always do. We never exclude the littlest ones, but generally we don't have them doing the crafts. Nor do they have much interest in what we're doing, unless it's decorating cookies. I think she will be very busy helping her twins, let alone having to pretty much make the 3 yo's rosary herself.

So before I reply to this mom, I'm trying to find things that her preschooler can do. I found a rosary coloring page, but I was hoping for more ideas. I'd like to be able to tell her something along the lines of "the rosary craft is really intended for school age children, but we'll have XYZ ready for our younger children."

Sigh. I swore I'd never be the craft lady again, but I'm the only one who knows how to make these rosaries!!

help!

I've seen a rosary craft where the cord and cross are drawn out on the paper, and then different colored round stickers are used for the decade beads, with a different sticker (either a Catholic sticker, or large star) for the Our Father beads.

It's like a coloring page, but with a little more because of the stickers?

Oh, I like that! Maybe I can use a circle punch to make paper beads out of cardstock, in lieu of having to make it to the craft store in between soccer practice and DC traffic! Then the little girl can use a glue stick to stick them to the paper. Thanks so much!!

Lorri -- re: the rosary on paper idea -- you could also use pasta, beans or other easily glued objects ....One thing MaryM usually brings is a stack of themed coloring pages -- a mystery of the rosary, perhaps -- and colored pencils, crayons to color it. This works well with kids who may be too shy (or too quick) for the main craft and just want something to "fill in"

Did you see the rosary idea Maggie had for preschool/toddler set and posted in another thread? It's great. I know it would take a long time to get that many juice lids but it could be modified in so many ways - like the cardstck circles already mentioned. I just think it is such a great interactive project so that could be done as a take home renewable craft.

If you look at my pictures from the Craft club, the crepe paper rosary chaplet was made by my dd3. I did supervise but it was just the right amount of time for her, she had a finished product in hand before her interest waned.

You'll also see pictures of the rosary made from circles that we punched as you suggested but that was a rosary my 8 and 10yr olds did. I'm into as little pre- mum prep as possible
