Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the knitters out there....
I have bought over the year two bundles of great wool dirt cheep at the second hand store. They are both pure wool and great colors (These kind of finds keep me happy for weeks )

But I have had a very hard time finding a pattern to use with the first batch of very chunky wool- I have already ripped out half of a man's sweater that I didn't like the way it turned out. Does anyone create their own patterns, or have any fave books or websites for figuring this out??

Apologies if the post is a bit fuzzy....amazing what posting in the middle of the night can do

Kristie,

It depends what you're gauge is giving you ... and is the wool 100%? I design many of my own, so I can probably draft something for you -- do you want a man/woman/child sweater or something else? Do you want a home accessory?

Why don't you post a picture of what you've got and we can go from there?

Thanks Mary, hoping you would answer

I have to give some attention real time here, so I will post the gauge and a picture of the wool tonight. It is 100% and I wanted to make dh a sweater for Christmas (or a vest-his choice)

Kristie,

You can find online sweater (jumper) calculators like this one, which will help you make a pattern for a sweater using any size wool.

I was given some gorgeous sock-weight wool from Brian's memere's stash when she moved from the homestead to the nursing home. There were three enormous cones, one oatmeal, one cream, one chocolate brown.

Why do my descriptions always come down to food? Hmmm.

Have fun!

Nissa, this is a great site -- I like that she's added a yardage calculator, too! If you need something to cuddle with at night, though, I love the Ann Budd books:   The Knitter's Handy Book of Knitting Patterns and her The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns ... these books are fabulous for sparking creativity and doing the math for you ... she's got clean, clear instructions and she makes the process of designing from scratch -- with any weight yarn or any gauge -- very doable.
