I somehow have a huge overabundance of colored sugar, sprinkles, etc- most of it given to me as gifts (along with cute cookie cutters).

Can anyone recommend a craft to help use up these stores?
My dd has food allergies, and we have never been able to make sugar cookies with icing, so that one is out.

I wonder- could I use it like colored sand?

Melinda,

I don't see why not. In fact you could compare it to colored sand in texture and weight, etc. and then use both to create a scene by using sand on some areas and sugar on others. Look at the qualities/colors/brightness/dullness/etc and decide which one would look best for each object in the picture.

Another idea is to make layered brownie mixes in a jar for gifts, with different colored sugars in patterns for the sugar portions. My nephew did this for Christmas and they were really pretty.

ETA: The sprinkles would look cool in the picture too. For the brownie mixes, add it in a little labeled bag for toppings.

It could be used like glitter also. In using it I would just make sure to keep it away from moisture as it would become sticky.

In order to eliminate the stickiness issue, you could do one of those "sand-in-a-bottle" type crafts, with layers of c0lored sugar and sprinkles.
What about making salt-dough "cookie" Christmas tree ornaments, and then sealing with a spray sealant?
